Well this is… something 😬 Reform UK say they’ll review every asylum claim from the last five years. That’s up to 400,000 people facing deportation, with talk of 600,000 in total. But here’s the bit they gloss over 👇 They’ve said they’d give people £1,000 plus a plane ticket to leave. Let’s generously call that £1,500 each. 👉 400,000 people = £600 million 👉 600,000 people = £900 million That’s close to £1 billion… before legal costs, detention, or actually enforcing any of it. Now add this into the mix: They also want to cut 68,500 civil service jobs. You know… the people who actually process asylum claims and appeals. Because right now: 😬 around 80–90k cases are already waiting 😬 80k+ appeals are backed up (down from 130k+ a year ago, BTW…) 😬 waits are over a year in many cases And their plan is to: 👉 massively increase the workload 👉 cut the staff 👉 somehow make it faster Regardless of your political stance on this issue, how exactly does that work? 🤔 This isn’t a plan. It’s a dog whistle. Don’t fall for it.
