Best advice that I can give anyone for the next 4-5 years: - Don't ride motorcycles - Don't do 'extreme sports' anywhere, especially third world countries - if you need to go skiing, make it kindergarten-safe Meanwhile, take care of your health. Because in 4-5 years our lifespans could be extended 20%-30%, easily live over 100, and have at 80 the energy of a current thirtysomething We're living the timest of times!

At first glance, the core argument that Liberals put forward for pretty much everything seems as straightforward as it is morally unassailable. 1) Either individuals choose for themselves 2) Someone else chooses for them And once the choice is framed that way, almost everyone chooses 1. But the dilemma itself already assumes the idea (and it’s a liberal idea at the start) that society begins with autonomous individuals who then decide when and where to cooperate. Or whether to cooperate at all. But that just isn’t how people have lived their lives, pretty much anywhere and at any point in time. The entire premise here just assumes that the liberal notion of the state of nature is true, and that man came together and signed a bunch of social contract laws like they were taking out a mortgage when they formed families and tribes thousands of years ago. No one voluntarily chose who their parents were, or what language they spoke, where they were born, what sex they would have, what the history and culture and moral worldview would dominate the particular land they were born into would be, what sort of education you’d receive as a kid, or what legal system would exist long before you became an adult capable of altering it. You inherited all of these before you were even aware of what “consent” was, let alone before you were capable of giving it. In short, the liberal order itself was not built on consent. Nobody consented to English common law or the Constitution or our concept of human rights or the public schools and moral worldview that instilled these things in us. Now usually, liberals will just respond that adults can give their consent later on, and that they can choose to alter or abolish things they don’t agree with via the liberal democratic order. But at that point, the debate has already moved beyond the idea that society is built on consent. It clearly isn’t. It’s built on inheritance, and that inheritance requires consent to sustain itself, but an enormous amount of that consent is established long beforehand. For most modern conservatives, it’s hard to see this because it requires accepting that there’s no such thing as a “neutral” social order at all. Every society ultimately forms people into something. Once you recognize that, the dilemma between the progressive vision of a fully autonomous and atomized individual vs 20th century totalitarianism just disappears. And what replaces it is a different question about which vision of the good will inevitably prevail and be espoused by the society that shapes us into who we are?

i absolutely love "pure" startups like midjourney > took zero outside money > fully bootstrapped > profitable since basically week one > doing around $500m a year > with a team of like 150 people. which means when the CEO david holz decides he wants to build a sci-fi full-body scanner... one that lowers you into a pool of water, maps your insides with MRI-level detail at ~100x the speed of an MRI, with no radiation and no giant magnet, there's nobody he has to convince. he just builds it. because there's no board or VC asking how a medical spa fits the image-gen roadmap or what the TAM looks like. founder control is the cheat code. it's what lets someone make the cool, risky, slightly absurd bet everyone else is too scared to even propose. more companies like this please.

I just tested my hand in a mini version of this scanner. Images that are higher quality than MRI, whole body captured in <1 minute, virtually free to run. This is going to change medicine. Things get even crazier when you consider the possibility of using the same tank to focus ultrasound to ablate tissue, stimulate nerves, etc. The FDA is not in the slightest ready for this. People will also complain about incidental findings but they are wrong and don’t understand how quickly software can improve and how inexpensive a time series of scans will be to generate.

Midjourney, the company behind the popular AI image generator, has unveiled what it says is the world’s first full-body ultrasound CT scanner. >The technology aims to make full-body imaging safer and more affordable. >During the scan, people are lowered into water while ultrasound waves create detailed 3D images of more than 25 organs and body structures in about one minute. >The scan uses no radiation. Midjourney is working toward FDA approval for future diagnostic uses and plans to bring the scanner to market by the end of 2027.

this is actually incredible a full body ultrasound scanner that takes 60 seconds instead of spending an hour in an MRI tube, without radiation, hospitals or a $2000 bill soon you’ll just walk into a health spa, order a coffee, step into the pod, and walk out with a 3D map of your body the future is finally starting to look like the future
