Pending requests that have received zero documents include records about a school using electric shocks on disabled children and the internal documents behind Kennedy's widely criticized gender dysphoria report. Kennedy has authority over Medicaid coverage decisions, vaccine policy, and abortion medication access. The records showing how those decisions were made are public by law. The department has functionally stopped producing them. Mother Jones sued in November. ProPublica sued the Department of Education this year for the same reason. The mechanism for public accountability - the one Kennedy himself used as a weapon when it suited him - is being systematically dismantled across the federal government.

On average, one person dies in ICE custody every six days. This is the highest rate EVER for the agency, and a sign of massive failures to keep people in custody safe and healthy.
