I never thought the United States would see a felon president before we’d see a woman president. But here we are.

It’s official: Donald J. Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump will now return to the same White House that he left in disgrace and disrepute just 4 years earlier. He will be the first convicted felon to ever hold the office of President of the United States. Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, ran an unapologetically ugly campaign, one based entirely around stoking fear and division. In both his speeches and his paid media, Trump relentlessly targeted some of the country’s most vulnerable communities, including Haitian immigrants and trans Americans, to name just two prominent examples. Once inaugurated, Trump has pledged to enact both widespread tariffs, as well as a mass deportation plan that could impact as many as 20 million residents nationwide. Experts have warned that both policies are likely to have lasting negative consequences on the U.S. economy, labor market, and consumer prices — in addition to potentially sparking a humanitarian catastrophe. Trump’s victory all but certainly means the DOJ’s ongoing federal probes into his alleged criminal behavior — involving both his attempts to violently overturn the 2020 election and his mishandling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago — will be buried without ever going to trial. Moreover, Trump will be reentering office just months after MAGA justices on the Supreme Court ruled that presidents can conduct the ‘official’ acts of their presidency with complete criminal immunity. The (flimsy) guardrails of his first term are likely to be removed completely, and most historians agree we are likely entering unprecedented territory in terms of what directions the country could go next. But voters have spoken regardless. One more notable fact: Trump is only the second president in history to serve two terms non-consecutively; he joins Grover Cleveland, who won the 1884 election, lost re-election in 1888, but then won again in 1892. Because of that, he returns to the White House as a ‘lame duck’ POTUS from day one, meaning speculation about his eventual Republican successor for the 2028 election will begin near-instantly.

I’m optimistic about tonight, but we know that the regime is against us. For the past nine years, Democrats and the media have tried to totally destroy Donald Trump’s character, defame him, slander him, impeach him twice, try to lock him up, and try to kill him. Dems are desperate to keep Trump out of the White House.
