A kunoichi does not trust places that are open at 1 AM. Places open at 1 AM have reasons. But I was hungry. I went in. There was a counter. Almost no tables. The kitchen was right there. Not hidden. The cook looked at me. I looked at the cook. He said nothing and turned back to the grill. That was the first clue. Nothing is hidden here. I opened the menu. Waffles. Eggs. Hash browns. Bacon. I could not believe the prices. I read them again. Same numbers. "What'll it be?" the waitress asked. She had a name tag. She already looked like she knew my answer. "Waffle and eggs," I said. "How do you want your eggs?" The egg question again. America always asks this. This time I was ready. "Sunny side up," I said. Without hesitation. She nodded. Did not write it down. Remembered it. Three minutes later the food arrived. The waffle was golden. The eggs were perfect. The hash browns were still making noise from the edge of the grill. I ate. Outside, people from every country were watching soccer. The stadium was lit up. The city was loud. In here, one cook stood silently at the grill. At 1 AM. For anyone. At the same price. I know this. This is not a diner. This is a fortress. It opens through storms. It opens through power outages. I have heard it stays open when the world seems to be ending. I have heard that FEMA uses the status of a Waffle House to measure how serious a disaster is. If it is closed, things are very bad. I paid the bill. It was cheap. I left a tip. She was already facing the next customer. At the exit, I looked back. A group of Germans came in. World Cup jerseys. They had the look of people entering for the first time. They looked at the sign. They looked at the menu. They looked at the prices. I knew that expression. It was my own face from one month ago. Tell me, America. This yellow building that pulls people in from every country at 1 AM, how long has it been here? And why did no one tell me sooner.

As much as I hate how Union Cross was a mobile game and not a proper console KH game, like it should’ve been from the beginning. The way they cemented real players into Kingdom Hearts 3 was a very cool addition.
