Truth is not subjective, but you must subject yourself to it. The hardest thing is to get out of your own way. Getting angry does not make you right. #GBO🍊

I know full well that online isn’t supposed to fully reflect real life. But being online (and off) for a few decades, I’ve found that a lot of people take their filters off. And it’s disturbing how many who profess Jesus as Lord will then shame anyone for having a past they’ve left behind. I’m divorced, and it happened under a LOT of shame that took years to come to terms with, to believe God hasn’t written me off for failing in marriage and purpose. Some days I know I would break under the pressure, because I’m not where or who I should be yet. And though my resolve has strengthened over the past year, I still believe many who call themselves Christian would be the harsh ones who tell me to go back to my old hole of silence and shame.

we have a pride problem in the Christian space well, in every space really

@caitnoelleault @Vol_Hoops I’ve been saying this in multiple places, but if the Sweet 16 has become routine and that’s a bad thing, your standards are screwed up. Mears made the Vols a show worth traveling for. Green made them decent. Pearl made them an event. Barns has made them a fixture.

If I see any Barnes slander (inevitable from our fans), I’m raging. 4 straight sweet 16’s. Only 7 sweet 16’s over 47 years before. He made us a top contender year after year and we aren’t going anywhere. Rick Barnes is quite literally the best thing to ever happen to @Vol_Hoops.

Two things can be true at the same time. Teaching boys to hate themselves for being male has been going on much longer than people may realize, with the implicit meaning that women are more righteous and virtuous than men. This means that women have been put up on a pedestal through Millenials and Gen Z, and to observe any kind of disparity was sexist, deserving of ostracization and shame. But that same culture encouraged girls that men are only good for what they can give or provide, and girls who challenge that are seen as traitors to their sex, pressed by their elders that they are not being considerate of all of the women hurt by men throughout human history. To even dream of a family and marriage is a betrayal of what their mothers supposedly fought for. It is a critical oversight to say this is only happening among 20-somethings. Millenial men try to be better than the fathers and grandfathers (who did cause a lot of hurt), only to find women who want to love and be loved but are afraid of betraying and being rejected by their mothers and friends, some have gone through real hurt, but instead carry that over to relationships. Then men break under the self-imposed pressure of the impossible, either blaming women or their fathers (two very long-standing coping mechanisms of history) or blaming themselves and checking out. Then when an actual story of redemption comes along, it’s impossible to accept that Jesus changes hearts. A zebra can’t change its stripes, but we’re not zebras, and for many, accepting redemption would mean admitting to themselves that they believe a lie or missed something along the way. And for those people, being wrong is worse than being healed.

Call me someone who was pleased to hear how Jesus changed Ashley and brought her to Trevor, and who forgave and redeemed her. Call me someone who was annoyed by professing Christians who didn’t forgive her, or who mocked Trevor. At the same time, I think this is a fair take. I used to wonder why every time I brought of a story of radical forgiveness for a formerly promiscuous woman, I heard endless claims of “don’t tell us we have to marry her!” But I haven’t been dating in decades. Young men right now face a bleak landscape where many girls won’t have them, where they struggle to get a job, where society has left them behind, and where they lack the self confidence held by precious generations because said generations weren’t taught to hate themselves for being male. Young men now think that because they struggle to thrive in a more difficult world, they will be forced to settle for a reformed promiscuous woman, since that’s the only girl who’d accept them. It’s an emotional reaction. This is depression and low self esteem talking, but it is also reality. And while I 💯 disagree with the meanness, vile comments, and misogyny some men have, I also believe that our society let them down, and that it’s to everyone’s benefit to build them up again. Understand that behind the nasty comments, there is a hurting who has given up on a fulfilling life, and will chase any false prophet promising better. Recognize that our failure to keep feminism out of public schools left young men feeling left out of society. We all knew this was happening in schools. Why did we let it fester for so long? So no, I don’t defend anyone with nasty comments, bad behavior, or uncontrolled anger. But I also won’t pretend that young men are well. They’re in a much wiser place than their fathers and grandfathers ever were. And we can either alienate them fight with insults, or we can try to find out why they feel the way they do. And far too many have never felt the love and guiding hand of anyone who cared about them well being. Yelling won’t work. I don’t know what will, but perhaps loving and caring will go further.

If you talk to any boy between the ages of 18-22, he’ll likely tell you that he’s frustrated with dating because it seems like every girl is on OnlyFans or sleeping around. Then he opens a social media app and the first thing he sees is some guy happy because he waited while his wife slept around but it’s okay because she found Jesus. So the average young boy is reading it frustrated because it sounds like this guy is a cuck and if he follows this path, he too will end up with a reformed hoe. Marriage needs a better marketing campaign. Many people have never seen a powerful marriage in real life. Everyone dreams of love and romance and feels like it’s no longer achievable in this age. Additionally, good girls also feel Prodigal son’d when they see posts like these because when a girl does bad things and “sees the light” she still keeps all the OF money and gets speaking engagements, fame, and a guy simping over her anyway. Not saying people can’t change, but these posts don’t inspire the ones who need inspiration. They just end up pissing off the guys and girls trying to date.

Also, I will never stop proclaiming what God has done in my life. God took the worst (me) and made me clean. He blessed my life when I didn’t deserve it and changed me and continues to change me. I have an amazing marriage. Three beautiful children. A very wholesome life. ♥️

@YuuyuuSQ Zero shows he's putting on a front, and the bonding event shows a bit, but by Azure there's no question - he's gone through a lot of screwed-up stuff in life and deals with a bad case of imposter syndrome. He doesn't need a girlfriend or wife in that moment; he needs family.

Yeah so my parents constantly used the Bible to manipulate and honestly emotionally abuse me my entire life. When I left the home age 17, I was depressed, suicidal, scared of God and scared of living without God. I didn't know who I was, I thought everyone hated me (including God). I was a mess. But yknow what? I didn't give up. I knew God was real. I had seen too much to doubt He was out there. I hated missionaries, having grown up on the mission field, but I enrolled in Youth with a Mission because I didn't know where else to go. God met me there. In the miraculous - my 8 years of chronic insomnia healed after my friend's lazy prayer, me praying over a witch's broken arm and her walking away completely healed, a man led by the Holy Spirit knowing everything I'd ever done. He met me in the quiet - in Bible studies where the Holy Spirit healed me of the pain of the past by showing me what the Bible actually said, not what my parents said it did; by dreams and memories that Jesus stepped into showing me He never left me even in the hardest times in my life; by calling my name in the still of an empty room. And since then, even more Christians have ruined my life and hurt me and almost broken me. My grandma, my best friends, my aunt, etc etc. But yknow what? I ran to God and He comforted me. They don't speak for Him. Only He speaks for Himself. And He says He loves me. That's all I need.

Many of the replies and quotes to this tale make me wonder how many so-called Christians really ignore much of the Bible, but in particular the book of Hosea. 😞
Trevor Sheatz@TrevorSheatz

My wife was formerly promiscuous. I was a virgin. She was then radically born-again. Committed to church, evangelized constantly, Puritan books in her bedroom, prayer journals, grief over past sexual sin, etc. We got to know each other well for over a year, dated for four months, engaged for two and a half, and didn't sin sexually with one another. Our first kiss with each other was at the altar on our wedding day (reaction pic attached!). We've been married for over five years now, and she's been the most wonderful and godly wife, mother to our three children, and homemaker you could imagine. She's more pure than most virgins, as biblical purity has less to with past sins (though they certainly matter) and more to do with one's current posture of the heart and daily decisions to honor the Lord (Matt. 5:8). We're far too quick to forget the story of the woman labeled as a known "sinner" (likely a prostitute) in Luke 7:36-50 who was washing Jesus' feet with her tears while kissing them too. The Pharisees were shocked that Jesus let a public sinner do this. Jesus responded with a parable about debts being forgiven and ended with this powerful conclusion: "Her many sins have been forgiven; that’s why she loved much. But the one who is forgiven little, loves little" (Luke 7:47). Everyone seems to highlight the benefits of virginity, and it certainly is a blessing. But we forget to highlight the benefits of being forgiven much as well. My wife knows the depths of Jesus' forgiveness more than most people, enabling her to more easily live out a life of passionate love for her Savior. A woman or man's past sexual sin matters. But what matters far more when it comes to deciding who to marry is if the person is truly born again, if their repentance is real, if they truly have a heart for Christ, if they truly follow Jesus and obey his commands. "God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world — what is viewed as nothing — to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one may boast in his presence. It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us — our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, — in order that, as it is written: 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.'" (1 Cor. 1:27-31) "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!" (2 Cor. 5:17)
