I’ve been loving this format so far but there are way too many moves that flinch. It feels like half the games I lose are because I got flinched on the one turn it really mattered and even in games I win they’re made way closer by randomly losing half my turns for no reason.

@TalonVGC @unironicpanda @DaWoblefet I’ve had random but it failed messages a couple times now in moments without status involved. The last one that happened I used perish song on politoed but got rock slide flinched from excadril and after the flinching message it said but it failed.

After Sneasler Dire Clawed @unironicpanda's burned Sinistcha, it said "But it failed!" I wonder if that always happens for moves with secondary effects, or only if the secondary effect roll happened, passed, but then got stuffed by existing status. @DaWoblefet thoughts?

@SableyeVGC Yeah it’s so crazy I haven’t played against it yet so I haven’t experienced how broken it is but the clips I’ve seen are pretty fucked. And power level aside I just don’t get how they can hammer down all the stuff about accessibility and then still paywall such a huge meta threat

It’s really funny that everyone talked about this game being free to play with some micro transactions as an improvement over the current system when now it’s obvious to get any of the new mons (like mega floette) you will need to continue to buy the new games plus this one

To make the game more accessible for new players we will be removing all Pokemon, items, moves and abilities, and replacing them with rock, paper and scissors! We hope that this will make learning the game easier while also making sure all returning players feel unwelcome :)

I just feel like there were so many ways they could have made IVs even easier to understand without just removing the outright. Maybe I’m just extra jaded cause the same shit is happening with Tekken right now too but it really sucks that so many games take this route.

I know removing IVs isn’t the end of the world and NFE pokemon will likely be added down the road but I’m really not liking this direction champions is taking where they’re just dumbing everything down to appeal to casuals that probably won’t even stick with the game long term

People asking for heat to be removed are being disingenuous. I’m not gonna claim I know as much as many other tekken players as 8 is my first one but heat itself isn’t a bad system it’s all the 50/50s and generally overtuned offense on top of heat that make tekken 8 frustrating.

Guilty Gear Strive is removing the controversial Wild Assault mechanic after months of player demands Tekken 8 when asked to remove the Heat system told players if you don’t want heat, play an older Tekken game

@mentalsyndrome My hope is that in the long run champions will be a gateway into vgc for new players but the main games will still be the primary way to engage with tournaments kind of like how pocket is to the tcg. I would be much less upset about removal of things like IVs if that is the case.

The more I think about Champions the less I like it. It requires three layers of subscriptions to play most efficiently (NSO, Home, and Battle Pass), you have less control of resource access compared to SV, and there are limitations on how you can obtain items.

@SableyeVGC People saying that removing them makes the game more accessible are vastly overrating how hard it is to understand IVs. Just max them by default and have a slider to change them if you want to. Solves the problem of grinding for 0 IVs and leaves room for new players to experiment

My take on potentially losing IVs: If they were going to be re working the EV system anyways, why not just find a way to merge them together. I am all for ease of access, but losing the creativity here just feels like a lazy rework as opposed to actually addressing an issue
The X-3 Grim Reaper@MoxieBoosted

Do we lose some niche interactions without IVs? Yeah. But ultimately I think the changing of this mechanic makes the game more accessible and will ultimately be better for the health of competition. Cluttered speed tiers aside.

I really hope champions isn’t going to be the permanent home for vgc cause winds/waves looks way too good to not be used once it comes out

@KwmlKwml @Aesvyn @NotAklo I don’t have much of a horse in this race but I’m honestly just curious, if boxx is ok because it’s mostly used for accessibility, couldn’t the same logic be used for people that can’t permaclaw because of hand pain, but also can’t use boxx for similar reasons?

My final thoughts on zjump — I recently thought about this for a VERY long while before saying something that I wasn't confident in. In this post I've addressed every point that has been brought up regarding this debate, as well as some points that I haven't seen people mention. As someone who has been playing Melee since the beginning and who at heart actually DISLIKES button remapping in the game, banning Z-jump/GCC remapping simply cannot be justified. You cannot ban zjump without banning boxx. Rather, you SHOULD not. It is logically inconsistent. If you support doing so, then your argument is subjective and not objective. You are biased. I've heard many people argue that banning only GCC remapping is fine because the boxx is an accessibility controller, whereas zjump and remapping are purely for ease of use. It's true that some top players (i.e. Cody, Joshman, Lucky, Chem, etc) have benefited from switching to Z-jump. Yes, it's mostly Fox players, as Fox requires the most high speed execution in the game. But the amount of NON-TOP level players that have improved because of switching to boxx is disproportionate. Yes, the boxx is an accessibility controller. But to pretend that the boxx is not ALSO an ease of use tool is straight up delusional. To be clear btw, I think the boxx being legal is very good for the overall health of the scene. If you think "we can address the boxx if it becomes a problem," then that means you only care if someone actually good at the game is using these tools. Put your bias aside; it is blinding you. The argument that GCC remapping is inaccessible is also just bullshit. Here is why: It's true that you currently need a phob gcc/controller mods to do remapping (which is super dumb btw when stealth mods are possible). However, if you want to play Melee on GCC without remapping, the only feasible way you can properly perform techniques utilized by zumpers and boxx players is to use permanent right hand claw grip. For most human beings, this hand position is extremely uncomfortable. In fact, I would even argue that doing perma claw grip without hand discomfort is EVEN LESS realistic than having controller mods done. It's just such a bad faith argument too because most serious competitors have already been using Phob controllers for years. That being said, zjumping is obviously easier than claw grip. I'm sure there is a very small subset of people who disagree, as this is subjective. Let's be real though. Even aside from competitive gamers, the vast majority of human beings would not think that perma claw grip is easier than holding a controller the conventional way. It IS an ease of use tool, but again — so is the boxx. Last thing I'll say is that I truly find it comical seeing Captain Falcon, Sheik, Marth, and Puff players complain about tech skill being too easy for Fox. "Melee is supposed to be a very difficult game [for you, not me]."
