My favorite moment of Basecamp was taking a gondola ride to the top of Spruce Peak with some of my favorite based builders… and then promptly getting stranded at the summit when it broke down. At first, no one minded. We grabbed a few drinks at the mountaintop bar, swapped stories, and traded notes on the projects we’re building on @base, like @betrmint (duh), @clankeronbase, @Veildotcash, $opsys, @MintedMerchShop, @LuminodeLabs, farcards, @basednouns, @_Procoin, and more. Then came the real bad news: the gondola wouldn’t be repaired anytime soon. “Alternative transportation” was being arranged, but it could take a while. Or… we could just walk down. That’s how a dozen or so based builders ended up hiking straight down a rocky slope steep enough to ski in winter. And once we started down, there was no stopping… just so you understand the gravity of the situation. Two days later, my calves and thighs are still on fire from that impromptu Leg Day. But tbh it was one of my favorite experiences of the week, precisely because it was unplanned, exhausting, and a little ridiculous. Hardship builds bonds, and when we finally made it to the bottom and bee-lined for the hot tub, I think we felt more like a unit than when we started out. Base is special like that. So many of the people here aren’t just building and creating in isolation, we’re pulling in the same direction, and Basecamp really reinforced this cultural alignment for me. It was awesome to get to know many of the people we collaborate with onchain every day on a deeper, more personal level. Thank you to @jessepollak and the whole base team for hosting this epic grassroots team-building event. This was my second time being fortunate enough to be invited to basecamp, and I left energized and excited to see what we’ll have been able to accomplish together by the time number 3 rolls around! 💪
