Later that academic year, I discovered a passion for computing. I loved Internet Technology lessons. When we were designing websites and creating databases, I felt completely immersed in what I was doing. It was as though I had found something that finally made sense to me. (A bit geeky, I know!) I also loved my teacher. He knew about my anxiety and was always patient and supportive whenever I struggled. I remember our very first lesson together when he handed out our predicted grades. Mathematics and Science had always been my weakest subjects, while English was one of my strongest. Because my overall attainment was affected by my difficulties in Maths and Science, my predicted grades were much lower than those of many of my classmates. I knew predicted grades weren't everything, but it was still painful sitting there while other students were told they were predicted Distinctions, only to hear that I was predicted a Pass. I remember bursting into tears. I felt embarrassed and convinced that I wasn't clever enough. My teacher quietly reassured me that predicted grades were only predictions and did not determine what I was capable of achieving. His belief in me meant far more than he probably realised. Around the same time, I also developed a real interest in Religious Education. I had an exceptional teacher whose enthusiasm for the subject was infectious. I loved making detailed notes, so whenever he filled the whiteboard with information, I was completely engaged. Despite working incredibly hard, I received an F on my first assessment. I was devastated. It felt as though no matter how hard I tried, I still wasn't good enough. My teacher refused to let me believe that. He continually encouraged me and insisted that I was capable of achieving a Grade B. I found it difficult to believe him, but he never stopped believing in me. Slowly, my confidence began to grow. I worked hard, listened to his advice and, to my own surprise, my grades steadily improved. In the end, I achieved the Grade B he had always believed I could. Maths and Science, however, remained a constant struggle. I was usually placed in the lower sets alongside other students who also found the subjects difficult. Unfortunately, many of them weren't there because they struggled academically; they simply didn't want to learn and frequently disrupted the lessons. This had been my experience since primary school and it continued throughout secondary school. It was frustrating because I genuinely wanted to learn. Instead, I often found myself surrounded by students who were rude, disruptive and disrespectful towards both their classmates and teachers. Some of the comments I heard directed at teachers were shocking. Their behaviour made an already difficult learning environment even harder, especially for students like me who were trying their best despite finding the work challenging. Looking back, those experiences taught me an important lesson. Success isn't about being naturally good at everything. Sometimes it is about finding the subjects that ignite your curiosity, believing in yourself when others don't, and having just one teacher who sees your potential before you can see it yourself. Later, when she started her YouTube channel and began appearing on television and in the media to raise awareness of brain cancer, she reactivated some of her accounts. It was remarkable how quickly things changed. Several of the very people who had been unkind to her at school suddenly started sending her friend requests. I remember sitting beside her on her bed as she scrolled through them. "Delete... delete..." she kept saying with a smile. "I certainly don't want them as friends." It wasn't said out of bitterness or revenge. Charlotte simply knew her worth. She had no desire to welcome back into her life the people who had made some of her darkest days even harder. She had moved forward, surrounded herself with genuine kindness, and understood that friendship is built on compassion, not convenience. Maisie's owner is moving into a hospice due to illness and Maisie is looking for a home. She is 14 years old. Maisie would be best in a quiet home with no other pets or children. She is chipped and spayed. Maisie is healthy with no medical problems. She would like a garden to lie in as she enjoys the sunshine. We think Maisie would make a great companion for someone who is on their own or a couple with a quiet home. Maisie uses a litter tray and likes her treats. She sleeps in her own bed or on the sofa. Over the last 10 years, I've worked tirelessly in Education while also running Charlotte's BAG alongside Miles. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years. Every kind word, donation and share has helped us get closer to funding life changing brain tumour research. I don't like asking again, but if anyone is able to support our 200mile walking challenge, I would be incredibly grateful. At the moment, we've raised £410 so, between us, Miles and I will be walking for just over £1 per mile! This will be a physically demanding challenge, made even more so by the mild arthritis recently diagnosed in both of my knees. The first 12 miles, from Eastbourne to Alfriston, are relentless constant climbs and descents with very little shelter from the elements. But compared with what Charlotte endured during her 951 day battle with a brain tumour, every step is worth it. Truly heartbroken to post this on behalf of the Keegan family... It is with immense sadness that we announce that Kevin Keegan has passed away at the age of 75. The former England player and manager had been battling cancer and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments. Kevin, a double Ballon D’or winner, was a much loved husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to thank Kevin’s incredible medical team for all their support. This is a hugely difficult time and they are requesting space and privacy.
