Minister of Health Dr. Ruth Aceng has defended the Government’s policy to have medical students undergo training for six years, saying the move is intended to safeguard the health of Ugandans. She noted that some medical students had failed internship four times even after graduating from medical school. The new policy will therefore ensure that only those who pass internship graduate. Dr. Aceng made the remarks while appearing before Parliament’s Health Committee during the consideration of the 2026/27 Ministerial Policy Statement.
