I knew Rev. Jackson for more than 50 yrs, as a civil rights leader, a political force and a neighbor. Tons of memories but one I'll never forget was spotting him in the crowd in Chicago's Grant Park, on Election Night 2008, holding a small American flag w/tears streaming down his cheeks, the night @BarackObama claimed victory. For the man who, for decades, led young Black children and disenfranchised people everywhere in a call-and-response that began with the words: "I Am Somebody," the enormity of that moment, and his role is setting the stage for it, was deeply felt. He laid a foundation for that victory and a multi-racial, economically based progressive movement we see today. RIP, Rev. You were much more than somebody!

Happy belated birthday to you Mashumi @Velile_Mnyandu … I remember those early days when we started this journey. When we had nothing. I remember how we hitch-hiked to Football matches in EC with no money. I remember how we kept our dignity in poverty….
