Man Accused of Trying to 'Beat The Gay Out' of 5-Year-Old Boy. A 33-year-old Florida man is in custody after Polk County deputies say he slammed a 5-year-old boy to the ground several times and struck him and two other children with a belt because he was upset with the youngest child’s perceived sexual orientation. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports that the investigation started when a 9-year-old girl who was in Andre Brown Jr.’s care texted her mother for help. The girl wrote, “I’m scared, he’s whooping him so hard, I’m scared,” according to the official sheriff’s news release. Deputies later interviewed the three children and examined their injuries. Brown allegedly told investigators he targeted the 5-year-old specifically because he thought the boy was gay. He reportedly stated he would “beat the gay out of him if possible, but since it wasn’t possible he would beat him more,” the sheriff’s office said. Deputies say Brown also hit the 9-year-old girl and another boy with a belt after getting upset over something from their past. The 5-year-old suffered the worst injuries: bruising on his legs, arms, back and stomach, a fractured right wrist and a contusion on his forehead, officials said. Brown was arrested that same day. When deputies tried to take him into custody, he allegedly pulled away, started yelling slurs and continued resisting even after being handcuffed. Brown remains in custody as the case moves forward in Polk County.
