If people choose to live in conditions such as these, that's their business - until such time as they are receiving tax-payers' money not to live in conditions such as this and until such time as they have children who cannot choose for themselves.

@AnnetteJack6 @RoadknightThe @Dedicatedlyfirm I saw it in Yamba, NSW, 20 years ago... 50+ proper built houses by the sea... Windows smashed, weather boards removed for fire wood, burnt out car shells... There was no desire to live a modern and civilized life there. Not one bit!

Been an epic 3 months in Danang Vietnam ✌️ Will be relocating to a more remote coastal city to check out DaNang was amazing and highly rec anyone visit for at least a few days But seeing it clearly becoming a tourism trap/ultra capitalistic/party city And personally prefer somewhere more peaceful, staying for at least few more years as main base, and more simple/nature lifestyle Cheers to adventures and can’t wait to keep sharing the Asia Arc with y’all 👊🏻

My take on "Living in Da Nang on $500/month" Yes, can do......... if you are willing to live like Vietnamese students, but not applicable for the majority of foreigners coming to #DaNang How Vietnamese students typically live when they come to Da Nang to study: 🔷 Renting rooms in their houses to students is big business for a lot of people in Da Nang. Plenty of rooms for rent for 2-4 million ($75--$150) + utilities. 🔷 Live on Banh Mi, cheap street food or those hidden, actually very cheap, good food places that usually only Vietnamese people know how to find. Make friends with the locals and they'll tell you about those places. 🔷 Go to cheap street coffee shops with the typical mini plastic chairs & tables and have coffee for 15K vnd ($0.55). 🔷 Rent or buy a cheap motorcycle so you move around on cheap gasoline (Need Viet driver's license). So, yes, you can live in Da Nang for $500 a month, probably also for $400 a month. If Vietnamese students can do it, why not you? But is it practical for most visitors? NO !!! Da Nang is actually not really cheap, it used to be, but things have changed, and now that is crowded with tourists, that change is accelerating. If you like to go to bars, nice coffee shops, eat at good food places, eat seafood, rent a decent stand alone apartment (not a glorified room in a house), then no, Da Nang is not as cheap as those youtubers often say. What Da Nang has is that it offers you the option of living very cheap if that's your priority, but that should not be confused with "Da Nang is very cheap". Da Nang can be very cheap or very expensive, and everything in between depending on your priorities or your point of reference. Have you seen apartment prices in Da Nang? It's usually $150-300K. If your reference is New York, then yes, Da Nang is dirt cheap, but not everybody comes from New York. The reality is that you have a lot of flexibility on how you choose to spend your money. You can eat a good My Quang for 30-35K vnd, or you can eat good seafood for 2 million vnd. It's your choice. I've been living in Danang since early 2010, the first 4 years part time, then 12 years full time. I've seen how it changed. If you think it's cheap now, then it was mega cheap 16 years ago. A more realistic estimate for cheap living in Da Nang would be more like $600 to $800 if you choose the cheap route: You can rent a studio apartment (maybe a 1 bedroom in some cases) for $5--$7 million ($200-270) + utilities, many of those around, usually in houses modified or designed just for those rooms = aka studio apartments. Then you budget your money according to your priorities. An extra $400-600 for everything else can be reasonable if you watch the money. Most foreigners in Da Nang will tell you that they spend between $1000-1500 a month, which is a realistic middle range if you don't go the high end route. But yes, you can live on $500/month if that's your choice. Also, don't forget that those youtubers pushing the "move to Da Nang", Da Nang is best for digital nomads" & "Living in Da Nang on $500/month", are actually making a living out of pushing those videos. Da Nang is a great city for living, but "cheap" should not be the primary reason to come here. Come because it's a great place to live and the locals are nice, friendly and welcoming, and don't forget to respect the local people and their culture and customs. And don't cause trouble. You are a guest in #Vietnam
Jon Myers@jonmyers

Vietnam cost of living posts enrage the internet. Every FOB YTer does the obligatory "Living in Da Nang on $500/month" video. The replies are always the same: "Impossible." "Way too much." People think they’ll step off a plane and live like a local for years. What they leave out: → Short stays mean tourist pricing on everything → Eating clean isn’t local pricing → The “like a local” lifestyle wears thin on most Westerners → Western comforts always creep back Stay 90 days minimum before judging. Budget 2x what the videos tell you. Don't sign a year lease in week one.

A Da Nang local spends the morning catching fish, framed by the quiet persistence of an effluent outflow in the background. By evening, the catch is on dining tables; by tomorrow, it’s on X, celebrated by newcomers marveling at how remarkably inexpensive the food is.

If you're in Vietnam, for the love of god, skip the beaches and the city Go to the center of the country and take a week long guided tour through the caves Literally one of the last few unexplored parts of the world and absolutely insanely huge You could be camping inside here instead of looking at yet another ocean view

just moved into my new spot for a few weeks here in vietnam 🇻🇳 place stays small but more than enough to lock in. view from window is really cool, rooftop pool on top of building looks even better (i’ll show you that one later) little game for fun: drop your guess for monthly rent of this apartment in comments. closest answer wins a pixelated gift from me :) hint: you’d cry if you knew what same place costs in any western capital.

@dilaw006 It's a really great country. Until they lock you in your house for 10 weeks straight, not allowing you to even leave to get groceries. And deputize the neighbours with a cute red commie armbands to patrol your street to make sure no one goes outside. Great food though.

@Sathibuilds @averycode They get penalized for canceling. He probably didn't think it was worth the effort. They want longer trips over very short ones. Mind you, they only get about 40% of the money that the customer pays

@Theblackfemini3 I remember driving into an aboriginal housing estate in Yamba 20 years ago... Most the houses had smashed windows, wall boards ripped down to use for fire wood, burnt out cars in front of houses. They'd been given nice homes and destroyed them. Was in a nice spot near the beach

Forget the empty bottles ffs! I have had a collection of empties before. Precious little Sharon, who was tucked in her bed behind closed doors, is my only concern. You put your babies to bed, thats where you expect to find them. Not taken by a predator
