If you want to have a great city, you have to pay for it. Plain and simple. It’s sad that far too many in Toronto fail to understand this basic premise, even though we’ve long enjoyed the lowest property taxes of any Ontario municipality. We like to think Toronto is a world class city, but our infrastructure and services are increasingly the butt of jokes across Canada and around the world. Mayor Chow’s property tax hike is a bitter pill to swallow, but one that will ultimately be felt most by those who can afford to pay the additional tax burden. I no longer want to live in a city with a starved tax base: one that’s resulted in crumbling infrastructure and inadequate services for our most vulnerable. #topoli #onpoli #cdnpoli

Mayor Chow has had the guts to do what no previous mayor since amalgamation has done - raise taxes to support the needs of a growing city with aging infrastructure and pressing affordable housing needs - and people who understand the math are like, “ok.” But the media? “Massive tax hike” “Toronto being held hostage” The media needs to get with the program. People aren’t falling for this cooked up narrative any more, and we now have a Mayor who isn’t running scared, but is doing the job that needs to be done.
