When I was in the 5th grade, my DARE officer told the class that the racism our parents experienced a generation before was over. James Byrd was murdered a few months later. I can never forget this. They dragged him till his head came off.

Bizarre. This was a when most people were extremely poor and died young. Workers toiled for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, for lousy pay and no protections. Farmers were at the mercy of creditors and hammered by the gold standard.

The 15th Amendment EXPRESSLY empowers Congress to legislate to enforce the 15th Amendment! As you note in 1982, Congress did so in response to a SCOTUS opinion requiring a showing of intent, as opposed to mere impact. The Congress expressly invoked its power under the 15th A.

Westerners think it’s a fumble when powerful states refuse to be brutal transcontinental colonizers.
This is why they can’t fathom China’s geopolitical posture even today; their entire view of China, and many other rising powers, is shaped by their own history and assumptions.
These are civilizations that built reputations on dominating and suppressing others.
They remember what they did to the world when they held so much power and can’t understand why others with similar power historically and even today are more restrained.

For context, China had the technology for gunpowder, printing, and blue ocean exploration hundreds of years before Europe. They failed to use it. That goes beyond a generational fumble. That is a self inflicted civilizational fumble that China still hasn't made up for.

Libertarian brain rot will be the end of this Republic. Let’s be clear: A Reagan-appointed judge blocked JetBlue’s hostile acquisition of Spirit after the CEO of Spirit himself went on CNN to argue (1) Spirit was not failing and did not need JetBlue to stay in business; (2) the JetBlue acquisition was illegal because its purpose was to eliminate competition from ultra-low-fare airlines and raise ticket prices; and (3) Spirit would be better off pursuing the legal, pro-competitive merger with Frontier (which the Justice Department had already green-lit).
