@MBorzekofski @wayofftheres My guess would be there was no good HLZ on the mountain ole boy was hold up on for a larger platform. I’m also guessing that the JSOC boys know which platform is best to use for the intended mission. They don’t just throw darts at the board randomly to choose gear and equipment.

I understand that I don’t know the full scope of the operation, but I have been involved with the planning and execution of flight operations. The Osprey was quite literally designed for these exact types of missions and has had great success executing them.
The “planning cell” that you are referring to, I have no doubt, did a phenomenal job. All of the people that took part in this op went above and beyond, I’m sure of it.

Likely Scenario:
-US conducts successful operation, seizing control of Kharg Island.
-US Troops secure and remain on Kharg Island.
-Iran persistently attacks with drones and missiles, rendering control of Kharg borderline useless.
-Conflict escalation ensues, likely by design.

In wars past, this wouldn’t stand to be true, but in today’s modern warfare climate, taking Kharg Island will likely not stand as a strong strategic advantage. In fact, it will likely be much more costly than leaving it alone, at least for now. If limiting escalation of conflict and more US involvement in the Middle-East is NOT the goal, then Kharg will fall. #Iran #Israel #War #KhargIsland #Kharg #Military
