Last week the Ministry of Health sent letters to councils threatening that if they do not start fluoridation as they have been directed (i.e. they do not poison the community's drinking water as they have been told to do) that "contravening a directive is an offence and the statute provides for potentially significant penalties". The Ministry of Health have obviously decided to double down on fluoridating the whole country. Despite the fact that the High court ruled in November 2023 that the directives given to 14 councils to start fluoridation were unlawful, the courts have also ruled that the directives are valid. This obviously makes no sense. A directive cannot be "unlawful" and "valid" at the same time, except in this 1984 world we live in. For the first time ever Oamaru will be fluoridated from the 30th of June and Kawerau from the 1st of September.
