Probably my biggest investing/trading learning from the past 12m is to find prior cases of management statements and see whether they were borne out. A few things mgmt teams have done during presentations this year I have observed: - Included a settlement in guidance before it was agreed, causing a guidance miss and a 40% decline - Stated they had no current plans or need to raise and then raised within a quarter, which hit the stock - Stated that margins for a component should improve with scale (eg that they had operating leverage) and then they simply did not leading to a large selloff There’s not really a strong way to predict things like this in advance. Especially something like #1… who does that? So I guess the best heuristic is not evaluating individual statements but rather “historical follow through rate”.
