@CaptBob_Nomadic @OnDisasters I’ve found the 321neos sink way more in last 50 feet if you cut power early or the A/T is behind on speed/energy. Noticeably more so than 320 or 321ceos. Maybe the bigger fans are that much more drag. Landing VLs+10 helps a ton, if not leaving power in longer than usual.

They seemed to have forcefully pushed the nose down instead of controlling it down at a normal rate. As I keep reiterating, leave some power in, add a little speed and you land flatter with more control. It will alleviate that high sink rate that can happen under 50 feet in gusty conditions. I’d rather eat up another 1000’ of a 10K rwy than fall out of the sky on the 1000’ foot marker.

United Airlines 737 MAX pilot injured after the windshield cracked at 36,000 while flying from Denver to Los Angeles on Thursday. Reports have suggested the possibility of the aircraft being hit by falling space debris or a small meteorite, though this remains unconfirmed. Passengers were later rebooked on a replacement Boeing 737 MAX 9 to complete their journey to Los Angeles with a six-hour delay.

@flightradar24 @aviacionline Hey guys, that taxiway was recently renovated to a runway. It’s called 18/36, runs parallel to the original 17/35. Probably a month old or so.

@MCCCANM I was in SDQ just a couple weeks ago. That taxiway has been recently renovated to a runway. 18 and 36, 17 and 35 is the original. Now parallels.

*Some* airports can use a parallel taxiway for flight operations if the runway is damaged or unusable, but not many. Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, for example, is built this way. There’s nothing else for hundreds of miles, so it’s wise to have a back-up for the runway. The overwhelming majority of airports are not built this way. The first 3,000’ of a runway is specially reinforced; the concrete may be 6-8’ deep, depending on how the airport is intended to be used. The rest of the runway is more or less like the taxiways. A large aircraft landing on an unreinforced taxiway would do significant damage to it. In addition, the taxiways are usually much narrower than the runway, which is generally about 150’ wide. You can land on narrower runways, up to a point…at my airline on the 737, the minimum runway width is 100’. A narrow runway gives pilots a visual illusion that they are higher than they actually are, sometimes resulting in a late “flare” & firm touchdown. Then there are issues with proper markings, lighting, etc. The existing instrument approach equipment could stay in place; after coming out of the weather, pilots simply “side-step” or “circle” to the taxiway, a visual maneuver that wouldn’t be very challenging.

It’s a big day at @JetBlue. After around 20 years, the airline will become an all-Airbus airline today. It is retiring the @embraer E190 with one final flight. Flight 190 is scheduled between JFK and BOS this afternoon. #AvGeek
