👩🏻‍🎓Data from a master’s thesis by one of our enthusiastic med. students: 🧠 The risk of overt HE is highest in patients with both large shunts (SPSS) and Minimal HE (MHE). 🧠 MHE alone has a higher risk that shunts alone. Lactulose was not protective when SPSS were present.

You should have been there! Great session on major killers of #QOL in #cirrhosis: SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION PAIN STIGMA FATIGUE AND FRAILTY The good news is that simply acknowledging these issues can help the patient cope. But there is a lot more you can do!

Treat your decomp #cirrhosis patients for M/HE before ACLF: - test and treat early on - check up on compliance and effect regularly - cross your fingers that they can withstand a future ACLF event because then rifaximin will have no effect 👇
