It breaks my heart to witness what is unfolding in Tanzania, a nation long regarded as a pillar of peace and unity in Africa. As we mourn with our brothers and sisters across the border, we are reminded of how fragile peace becomes when the thirst for power outweighs the value of human life. For us in Kenya, the painful memories of 2007 remain a solemn reminder that no leader, no ambition, and no election is worth the blood of our people. May the tragedy facing our neighbor remind us all that true leadership is not about holding onto power, but about protecting the soul of a nation.

The housing levy has taken money from workers and businesses and left many struggling to make ends meet. Government data shows about KSh 120bn has been collected so far and used to build around 148,000 housing units. Each unit is valued between KSh 1.5m and KSh 2.5m, putting the total value of the projects between KSh 220bn and KSh 370bn, all built on public land. The WANTAM Government will securitize these houses and the land they sit on to raise at least KSh 250bn. From this, every Kenyan and business that was deducted will be fully refunded the KSh 120bn plus 20% interest, bringing the total payout to about KSh 144bn. This will correct a serious injustice and return money to the people who earned it. The balance of about KSh 100bn will go into a revolving social housing fund to improve slums and build decent homes for low-income families. The rent from these houses will sustain the fund, ensuring housing for all without ever taxing Kenyans again.

Yesterday, we met residents of Dagoretti North and South during a Radio Citizen live show at the Dagoretti South Empowerment Centre. The session brought together local MCAs, NGCDF managers, and community leaders to discuss the state of service delivery in Nairobi. Residents voiced strong frustration over the Nairobi County Government’s failure to deliver basic services. Key concerns included continued garbage dumping in Kawangware, poorly equipped hospitals, unchecked licensing of liquor outlets, insecurity due to lack of street lighting, and plans to repossess private land along the Nairobi River without proper consultation. Listening to these concerns strengthened my resolve that Nairobi needs a manager, someone who understands what it takes to bring people together and deliver real solutions. I am ready to be that manager.

Today we celebrate the courage, sacrifice, and unity that built our nation. Kenya’s heroes come from every corner of this land, and together we will keep building a country that honors all its people. Our diversity is Kenya’s strength, and no tribe should ever have to apologize for existing. Happy Mashujaa Day.

A call for Peace, Dignity & Unity. We must guard that our tribute to Baba does not become another moment of tragedy. Public order is fragile when emotion meets pain. #MastaWaNai
