HS Coaches often complain about breaking “AAU” habits. Lots of time the opposite is true. AAU Coaches have 2 break “HS” habits. Lack of urgency, playing soft due 2 refs calling everything in HS, casual habits that lead 2 turnovers. Not pass faking vs pressure, not playing off 2.

If I were a 2027 High School Recruit… AAU season means limited practices. Sometimes just 1–2 per week. That’s not enough to stay in a shooting rhythm. You’ve got to get extra work in on your own. Early in the week: high volume shooting. Less contact, lock in on form, build consistency, get reps. Later in the week: game speed, game like intensity. Create shots off movement, simulate real situations, and build a scoring routine from all spots. Chase efficiency. Move around the floor. Train with purpose.

I got a text from a coach today saying that’s is not “as common as you’d think” for high school coaches to help their guys with recruiting As a high school coach, if you’re not helping your guys try to achieve whatever they want to achieve next, what’s the point of doing any of it?

Austin Peay wing Tate McCubbin plans to enter the portal, his agents at ProMondo Sports told SI. McCubbin was the 2025 A-Sun freshman of the year. 6’8” wing who has made 60+ threes in each of his first two college seasons. Has two years to play.
