A Bonnyville minor baseball coach is facing multiple charges following an online child exploitation investigation. Michel “Mitch” Michaud, 48, was arrested Jan. 28 and charged with possession, accessing and distributing child sexual abuse material, along with one count of bestiality. Police say Michaud coached with the Bonnyville Braves. Investigators do not believe any players were involved, but the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities say they received several reports last year alleging child sexual abuse material was being uploaded and shared online. Michaud became a suspect in November. Officers seized electronic devices, including a phone and laptop, and a forensic analysis is still underway. Michaud has been released under court-ordered conditions, including a ban on volunteering or working in positions involving anyone under 16. He is set to appear in court Feb. 24.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged a 48-year-old man with sexual assault and sexual interference in relation to a November 2025 incident. At the time of the incident, the man was a deacon at Vanguard Community Church, near 121 Avenue and 103 Street. Frezghi Zerezghi, 48, was arrested on December 12, 2025, and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference. He was released on an undertaking. Police believe he may have offended against other victims and are encouraging them to come forward.
