Final day of #EGU24. Come down to X1.101 this morning to find out about the work I've been doing with @DrM_Farrell @MPK_1 and @cailadd on the use of sedimentation fields for saltmarsh restoration

The PM really does need to understand that he is now further damaging U.K. science by not immediately rejoining Horizon, presumably to placate some know-nothing fringe bloviators who know nothing about science, its value or how it’s conducted. As Lord Rees says below, it is baffling. Get on with it.

One thing that concerns me is that often the implied baseline for nature recovery is the 1970s I was around then & UK nature was in a bad way, especially after massive agricultural intensification in the previous 2 decades So, is it really the just 1970s we want to return to?

It has been a great couple of days in the field this week with @UniRdg_UROP and @UniRdg_GES student Laura and @MPK_1 looking at the impact of grazing on comparisons between natural and restored saltmarshes. We also found a new field assistant!

This is the Secretary of State for the Environment and despite being a ranty and no doubt often boring polemicist, I am actually lost for words.

Perhaps you don't care about wildlife entanglement? But you must appreciate a beautiful beach? Please consider alternative decorations and gifts and if you must insist on having balloons, please make sure they don't end up here. 3/3

It's "wildflower" season again on social media. Great colourful displays BUT issues which need to be raised : 1) They are often not WILDFLOWERS 2) They are not the best for INSECTS, they may be (not always) to POLLINATORS 3) They certainly aren't MEADOWS Let me explain 1/n

Check out this great image that shows natural regeneration of Rowan and Birch within the area of free roaming cattle grazing above ancient Side Wood. Notice how sheep grazing outside the walled and fenced enclosure is preventing tree regeneration.
