During the Iran-Iraq War, Iranian engineers developed an asphalt formula that hardened in 4-6 hours which allowed damaged airstrips to be reused within hours of being bombarded That was 40 years ago *cough*

My train was delayed by 2 hours to London yesterday (missed an appointment). It’s meant to be an hour journey. It’s now delayed 50 minutes going to Cardiff (to record a film). In Iran, under historic sanctions, they get trains going days after the track is *bombed* 🤣🤣🤣

WSJ: “Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. can still export oil via pipelines that bypass the Hormuz, with higher prices offsetting lower volumes. Refusing to ship Saudi and Emirati oil through the strait while it is under Iranian control—in a way, an informal oil embargo—would transfer the costs of this problem onto other nations, and force them to intervene, some Gulf officials calculate.”

It’s been a rough 2026 for the UAE, first having their maritime empire collapsed by the Saudis, then their protectors US-Israel defeated by Iran. The Emiratis don’t seem to have mentally absorbed the dire position they’re in if they’re really doubling down on the DC-Israel axis.
South Asia Index@SouthAsiaIndex

UAE says it will reassess its alliances and will review the partners it can rely on, after Iranian attacks on UAE. Anwar Gargash, advisor to MBZ, told CNN that Abu Dhabi expects to see the “Israeli influence becoming more prominent in the Gulf, not less” Gargash criticized “major” Arab and Islamic nations for failing to support Gulf Arabs in “times of hardship."

the level of patience and tolerance Araghchi must have to even answer these calls. What a complete waste of time and energy listening to this nonsense in times of crisis.
Johann Wadephul@AussenMinDE

"Seems like we're leading the State of Lebanon toward civil war. Maybe it's not so bad for us. Let the Lebanese government fight Hezbollah" Raviv Drucker, considered one of the most "leftist" voices on Israeli TV, advocates for Lebanese civil war. Veteran reporter Alon Ben David responds, "That's been the goal from the start". Channel 13, March 18
B.M.@ireallyhateyou

Israel and the US, with the support of the entire West, are openly trying to instigate an all-out regional civil war. Any regime ollaborating with this heinous genocidal plan is an enemy of humanity and MUST BE TOPPLED.

The west doesn't understand Iran because the west doesn't understand anything that's not transactional They made the same mistake with the Houthis There really are people on this earth that would rather be poor and die than submit to your will

Iranian officials flat out telling news orgs that “negotiations are off the table while Lebanon is being attacked” And Netanyahu flat out saying “we’re going to keep attacking Lebanon” And the Strait is still closed. Under a normal admin, maybe optimism is warranted that they could land this plane gracefully. But it seems… premature here.
The Hormuz Letter@HormuzLetter

BREAKING: Iran rules out negotiations with the US and will keep the Strait of Hormuz closed until a full ceasefire is established in Lebanon, per Fars News Agency citing an informed source. The position contradicts Trump's NBC interview minutes earlier stating he is "optimistic" an Iran deal is within reach, and would mean Iran walking from Saturday's Islamabad talks unless Lebanon strikes stop completely.

I don't know why people expect that, if Trump treats Europeans like cattle and we accept it, the next administration will magically give us back everything we have given Trump to placate him instead of pocketing the gains while assuring us that our ordeal is finally over.
Tim@TimRuhr

@phl43 @EPoe187 This has been the delusion since his first presidency. The expectation shouldn't be that it's over soon but that most of the decisions and new arrangements will at least remain or be cranked up by the next administration.

As someone deeply interested in the real economy and supply chains, I find it hard to comprehend how blind financial analysts are to the supply side. Applying demand-side analysis to a supply-side crisis is deeply flawed.

In 2016, Paul Mason went mad. He heard voices in his head telling him to kill Yanis Varoufakis during the Greek debt crisis.
