Militarily, they may not be as experienced, but in terms of firepower, a near-peer, more importantly, u.s. power projection is based on carrier groups & China has vast arsenal of anti-ship missiles, they just have to hit 2-3

Trump on Taiwan: When you look at the odds, China is a very, very powerful, big country. That’s a very small island. We’re 9,500 miles away. That’s a little bit of a difficult problem.
If you look at the history, Taiwan was developed because we had presidents that didn’t know what the hell they were doing. They stole our chip industry.

Trump got the U.S. nothing from his visit to China, other than China promising to buy some Boeing planes, fewer than expected. Trump FAILED to convince China to pressure Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Xi and China were showered with endless praise and groveling from the president of the United States for the whole world to watch. China keeps getting stronger, more emboldened when it comes to Taiwan, and more powerful globally while Trump picks fights with longtime U.S. allies. Back at the White House, Trump had nothing concrete to point to as a success: “All I can say is that was a great success… A lot of things have happened and you’ll be hearing about them, but that was a tremendous success. I think it really was a historic moment.” An absolute embarrassment for the United States.

@nothyphenated @RpsAgainstTrump Militarily they haven't proved anything. Managed to have 2 ships collide with each other while terrorising a Phillipino ship is the military highlight of their past 35 years. They are concerned it could be a Russia/Ukraine situation. Not even Xi would survive a debacle like that

As we saw, they barely reacted to trump’s blustering over the last year with his tariffs, soya beans etc
Without Chinese goods, most countries will have a tough time functioning, China knows this - they can take a few loses

@nothyphenated @RpsAgainstTrump While I agree they take their time it is also related to their early attempts in the 40s and 50s. While China is happy to throw people at the problem, they are not prepared for a loss of face which is what happened the last time they tried.
