@Walk4Health Private associations misusing the eco-sensitive park for their events is very appalling. The apathetic attitude of authorities is even more disgusting.

It is deeply distressing to witness the continued misuse of Mahatma Gandhi Park in Manikonda, for private, commercial, and caste based events, despite multiple written and verbal appeals made to the Municipal Commissioner and other officials of Manikonda. Private associations are repeatedly conducting exclusive events, collecting money from attendees, and using the park as a commercial and community platform for their association benefits beyond its lawful purpose. The aftermath of these events leaves the park littered with garbage, damaged flora, sound pollution and polluted air, severely compromising the eco-balance and biodiversity that the park once proudly sustained. Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 at Mahatma Gandhi Park: A Masterclass in Reel Cleaning. Bravo to Manikonda Municipality and RWAs! Over 20+ staff, residents, and officials gathered with perfect smiles, brooms in hand, and cameras rolling. The reels looked flawless Gandhiji himself would’ve been impressed… if only cleaning on camera could make garbage disappear in reality! Sadly, the truth: *Garbage piles from Bathukamma (21st Sept-2025) still rotting in the park. * Diapers, plastic bottles, and snack covers decorating the kids play zone * Sitting Benches as Dump zones! Clearly, cleanliness for Manikonda Municipality means sweeping for the selfie, not for the citizens. MG Park today is less a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi than a stage for “Reel Gandhi”, where swachhata is performed, not practiced. Dear officials next time, please clean the park, not for your social media timelines. @Walk4Health Destroying greenery to celebrate a festival is not right. That’s against the basic tenets on which these festivals had been shaped. The authorities who are supposed to stand by the residents and safeguard the ecosystem are siding with local politicians. Pathetic!

True celebration honors nature, but the way festivals are celebrated in our parks today deeply harms the very environment we cherish. In MG Park, huge trees have been cut down both inside and outside the park exclusively to install light poles and series lights for Ganesh celebrations. When asked, those cutting the trees openly admitted they lacked permission from municipal or forest authorities, acting only under directives from a local political leader, yet with resources supplied by Manikonda Municipality itself. This is not just disregard, but a disastrous act with lasting consequences for our green cover. Importantly, none of the streets or other parks in the area have been subjected to such aggressive tree cutting or extensive pruning activities; the tree felling in MG Park was done solely to accommodate the Ganesh festival, making it an unprecedented and targeted assault on our local ecology. Cutting trees simply to hang lights for a celebration is an act that cannot be justified or accepted, no matter the occasion. It’s clear municipal officials are now mere spectators silent as ecological assets are destroyed. As long as the residents of Alkapur Township and Manikonda do not raise their voices, these activities will continue unchecked. If we remain passive, we risk losing our parks' greenery entirely, transforming these spaces into privileged playgrounds for local RWAs aligned with political groups, not sanctuaries for the entire community. @Walk4Health Most of the Indian festivals are out of obeisance for nature. But the present mode of celebrations of such festivities are total disrespect and disregard to the same nature. This needs to end. We should stop littering and damaging the nature.

Why has Manikonda Municipality failed to act against ATRWA despite multiple complaints about their damaging events in MG Park and now in Professor Jayashankar Park, Alkapur Township Manikonda? Even after 9 days of celebrating Independence Day, bins are still overflowing with food waste, plastic water bottles and discarded plates, posing health risks to families and children. How were ATRWA allowed to display donation boards with UPI QR codes and collect money in a public park was there any official permission? Residents demand immediate action: penalize groups that ignore civic responsibilities and ensure our parks are managed for community well-being, not private interests.
