@rocam54 @mouse_math If the wrong people come to power, disobey stupid orders. If they tell you that you must separate migrant children from their mothers, you can drop to the floor, curl into a ball, & do nothing. Don’t let them make you evil.

@ms_amerie_jayne We evolved to crave sugar, fats, & salt because they were relatively rare back in the day (the millions of prehistoric years when we were evolving). But now they are plentiful, so we consume more of them than is healthy I’m thinking of going on a cheeseburger & chocolate diet 😁

@jeanisalunatic It is what it is. That that is is. That that is not is not. I am what I am. We are who we are. We do what we do. Etc 😁

Insane rain... Look closely. Since March 1st around 3 feet of rain has fallen across the Hawaiian Islands. Some spots have had more. And not just one island... All of the islands higher peaks have seen ~30"+.

Severe storms have brought extreme flooding to Hawaii. Many areas saw 5-10 inches of rain in just four days, with more than 30 inches of rain in some areas. These Landsat images show the extent of flooding before the storms and as of March 14, 2026. go.nasa.gov/4lTyYsT

@jeanisalunatic The 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights now looks like a hopelessly liberal/progressive document. I like it, but my nation’s current leadership (Trump and gang) clearly wishes to return to an earlier time with more primitive concepts 🙁

@VirtuousIntent @PlantRobinson Yes. Becoming religious (or more religious) is often a response to poverty (economic stress) or other forms of stress. As Earth’s population climbs towards 10 billion & the climate/ecological crisis worsens, people are likely to gravitate towards religion

Do you have shifting baseline syndrome? Yesterday's global sea-surface temperature was 5.17 standard deviations above the 1982-2011 average (first 30 years of data). The odds of this happening by chance are about 8,500,000-to-1 against (without climate change).

Some (many) U.S. people are clueless to our relative wealth compared to the rest of the world. It’s part of why we’re often disliked. We complain about food PRICES; & yes, they’re getting high. But in the world outside the U.S. ~25,000 people die from malnutrition each day

@she_obey I’m no fan of patriarchy. But I see it partly as a competition for wealth, in which it’s accepted that some men win billions while other people starve, & “sharing” is a dirty word. If all the world’s wealth were shared equally, us U.S. folks would have less. I’d be OK with that

@MStimley Is the problem wealth though? Through my feminist viewpoint the problem is patriarchy: control of birth mothers, children, property and inheritance. Isolation supports abusers and patriarchy breeds so many of them. Patriarchy also crumbles when enough of us call bullshit.

@PlantRobinson I’ve heard of candied grasshoppers and chocolate covered ants. Maybe that would work better. Haven’t tried any though

Proof, if any were needed, that ‘Woke’ is not new and has actually been pretty mainstream for at least 60 years.

@brettachapman I’ll soon be 56 and never had kids. So I don’t have to be worried (as others seem to be) that the U.S. could be taken over by China, or Russia, or Muslims or Mexicans. But it would be best if these lands were all eventually returned to the surviving indigenous people

I love this incredible map of Native American nations because it reminds us that all of what is now the United States is Indigenous lands!
