MTWU CONDEMNS THE CONTINIOUS KILLING OF CIT MEMBERS It is with deep sadness and outrage that we report the horrific killing of one of our member. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim's family, friends, and co-workers during this devastating time. We are devastated and enraged by the cold-blooded murder of our member, a dedicated Cash-in-Transit (CIT) worker who was gunned down while on duty in Tsakane. This barbaric act is not just a crime, it is an attack on every worker who puts their life on the line to serve the community and the country at large. As a labour union, we strongly condemn this act of unnecessary violence. CIT officers risk their lives daily to ensure the safe transportation of cash and valuables, a valuable service to the economy and the wider society. These attacks on such workers are not only criminal acts; they are an attack upon the fabric of our working-class society. We urge the law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and decisively in arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to account with the entire weight of the law. Such serial assaults on CIT staff must not go unpunished. Furthermore, we demand urgent and concrete action from government and employers within the security sector including the intelligence unit to improve the safety and working conditions of all CIT workers. This includes better protective equipment, advanced equipment, and better coordination with police departments. MTWU is currently pushing the three man team on the CIT sector to minimise the killings of our members by thugs. We will not rest until our deceased colleague gets justice and until there are effective safeguards to prevent further loss of life in this risky business.
