#MiamiGP 🇺🇸 | Lewis Hamilton on the power issues he faced during the last race: “Obviously, the last race, I could see I was down on power. We did a deep dive and could understand that it wasn’t the engine, but the systems altogether, including several things coming together to lose me 8-9 tenths in straightline power. We got on top of that, worked in the sim, I’ve been at the factory every week, been training a huge amount, and I feel refreshed for this weekend.”

I joined the team and the car was already in the process of being made as I joined and it was an evolution of the previous year's car and so I arrived and I was learning about a car that had been, obviously, not built for me and generally didn't suit my driving style. There were elements that I was asking for but we couldn't put in the season because it's too expensive, like the suspension, to build, with the budget cap...” “We didn't develop the car through the [last] year because we decided to focus on this year's car. I got to work on the simulator and really get to learn and engage with all the engineers and the things that I was asking for. We come to this year's car and it's obviously a completely new era. It's a new start for everybody, but they've got a couple of things on there that I'd asked for which I'm really grateful that they listened and did.” “I guess just overall enjoying that and also I've just prepared my mind and my body better than ever this year and I'm feeling good about it.”

Nope, never once said that. I did say that it was yet to be determined if he would return to old form, and that regardless of whether he did or not he would likely still be a bit slower than Leclerc. Looks to be correct. He’s looking much better than 2025, and he got a bit of a glory run there at the end to close the gap for a statement/confidence boost as Leclerc walked it to the podium. issue right now is the gap to Mercedes, nothing either can really do about that.

Clever work from Mercedes to not pull away from the pack, avoiding some ADUO data. Props to them, they’ve played this regulation set perfectly on the political side to snipe an advantage with their CR trick, put the FIA in a position where they felt there was no choice but to allow it, and now they can manage the spread to avoid triggering ADUO numbers for their competitors. Kudos to Toto, he’s definitely the “owner” of the sport politically.

It appears to me the closest Aston Martin came to completing an uninterrupted race sim during these six days in Bahrain was 26 laps over two tyre stints yesterday by Fernando Alonso and then the car broke down. No proof Aston can finish a race right now. Nightmare stuff.

@the_zb_ Don’t speak too soon..but there are positive signs for Ferrari for a few reasons: - they transitioned to the SF-26 in April last year - a serious mandate from mgmt to change or be fired - arrival of SLH with white papers and demand for operational excellence - Loïc Serra et al

One thing that is utterly certain beyond any shadow of doubt, and cannot be debated in any form or fashion: Whether the Ferrari SF-26 is good or bad will have nothing to do with Charles Leclerc or Lewis Hamilton, and everything to do with engineering. It all comes down to engineering, in a massive regulatory change where feedback mechanisms don’t even exist yet. We’ll find out who did the best engineering job on the PU and the chassis.
