Two days ago, an incident involving a woman stealing bread from a tandoor in Peshawar’s Qissa Khwani Bazaar became the center of attention. The tandoor owner assaulted the woman and handed her over to the police. Yesterday, Peshawar police presented her before the court on theft charges. The judge asked the woman to explain the entire incident. Through tears, she said: “My name is Gul Bano. I lost my husband in an accident. I have three orphaned children who have not eaten for two days. There is no one left to provide for us. Out of desperation, I took bread from the tandoor.” Clear signs of violence were visible on Gul Bano’s body. The judge first ordered the arrest of the tandoor owner for assaulting the poor widow. He sentenced the owner to two years in prison and ordered him to pay 500,000 rupees in compensation. Orders were also issued to the City Station Officer, and the Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar was instructed to ensure financial support for the widow and her children from the state treasury.

Pakistan possesses a wide range of military equipment, and while our OSINT have already written about some of them, this particular system was somehow left out,so today I’ll cover it. The topic is the Spada 2000 air defense system, which Pakistan ordered in 2007. Deliveries were received between 2010 and 2013. Under this deal, worth approximately €415 million, Pakistan purchased ten batteries of this system from Italy. It is currently in service with the Pakistan Air Force. The system uses the Aspide 2000 missile, an upgraded version of the earlier Aspide Mk-1. The Aspide Mk-1 itself was based on the American AIM-7 Sparrow missile. The Spada 2000 system is manufactured by the European defense company MBDA. In terms of battery structure, each battery consists of a search-and-track radar, a fire control radar, a command and control center, and missile launchers. A single battery can include between four to eight launchers, and each launcher carries six missiles in a ready-to-fire configuration. Supporting vehicles such as power supply units and missile reloading vehicles can also be part of the battery setup. The missile used in this system is equipped with a semi-active radar homing seeker and can intercept targets at ranges between 20 and 25 kilometers. It can reach speeds of up to Mach 5. The missile weighs around 240 kilograms and carries a 35-kilogram high-explosive blast-fragmentation warhead. Its length is approximately 12 feet, with a wingspan of 31 inches and a diameter of 9.2 inches. As part of the deal, Pakistan acquired around 750 missiles. The system’s search-and-track radar, known as the Thompson-CSF RAC, is a 3D radar. It can detect targets at ranges from 1.5 kilometers up to 80 kilometers, while surveillance can extend up to 100 kilometers. Additionally, it is capable of detecting up to 200 targets simultaneously and tracking 128 of them. Overall, the Spada 2000 plays a key role in Pakistan’s air defense network, particularly in the medium-range air defense category. جناب آقای آصف‌ علی زرداری، رئیس‌جمهور محترم پاکستان اخیراً مدعی شده که #تمدن_گندهارا در زمرهٔ تمدن‌هایی است که هویت ملی پاکستان با آن تعریف میگردد و علاوه بر آن، آدم‌خان-دُرخانی و رباب را بخشی از میراث فرهنگی ناملموس خود برشمرده است. این در حالی است که به روایت تاریخ، تمدن گندهارا مربوط #آریانای کهن بوده که از بامیان تا حوزهٔ سند را در بر می‌گیرد. در واقعیت تمدن شمال هند و پاکستان کنونی ادامهٔ تمدن افغانستان امروزی بشمار میرود. به‌همین ترتیب، برخلاف ادعای رئیس‌جمهور محترم پاکستان، داستان عاشقانهٔ "آدم خان و دُرخانی" و رباب در منابع مختلف از جمله کتاب قدیمی (ملی هینداره)، گزارش سلطنت کابل و وبسایت‌های معلوماتی معاصر، میراث فرهنگی ناملموس ما می‌باشد و رباب، در کنار زیربغلی یکی از دو ابزار موسیقی سنتی افغانستان است که با نام مشهور رباب کابلی معرفی شده و سازمان علمی-فرهنگی ملل متحد(یونسکو)@UNESCO در سال ۲۰۲۴، هنر ساخت رباب را به عنوان میراث فرهنگی افغانستان (و برخی همسایگان شمالی و غربی آن) به رسمیت شناخته است.

@TurgayEvren1 It's a reality in Pakistan, although a sad one. Some some 33 years of direct military rule, the democratic institutions are barely developed and hence the need for a hybrid governance. In a short run, this is working for macro-stability, amidst internal political instability

It is good that there is a coherent relationship between Pakistan Army Chief Asım Münir and PM Shahbaz Sherif. Yet in a democratic country it looks strange to see that an Army Chief is so actively involved in international relations. In Türkiye, now few people know the name of Army Chief. Even I do not know his name although I am interested in politics closely. This situation looks like an advantage for the ruling parties of Pakistan in the short run but in the long run it will not be good for them and it will trigger new disputes.

Pakistan’s policy position remains clear and consistent - veto should either be abolished or, at a minimum its use by the current permanent members severely restricted. Any expansion of the veto or addition of new individual permanent members is firmly opposed, as more vetoes would only aggravate the problem. This is a position of principle.
