Really excited to share that both my better half (@bfoxwilliams) and I were selected as 2024-25 @RussellSageFdn Visiting Scholars. Looking forward to joining such an impressive group of scholars.

@JohnRuf6 @VincentGeloso @joefrancis505 I’ll let you have the last word, but I don’t find your latter statement to even remotely be true. If you don’t believe that an equal amount of fuckery is possible with RD, IV, D-i-D, etc. then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. Lol

@MWillJr @VincentGeloso I mean for specific pointed critiques there's a lot flying around like @joefrancis505's recent post. My point here is more sociological insofar that it's easier to use this technique "sloppily" and wriggle your way around peer review.

I think scm just has massive "human in the loop" problems that takes a incredible level of faith in the researchers that is rare to see in practice. Similar to IV papers and to a lesser extent DID.
Vincent Geloso@VincentGeloso

I replied here. But the simple story is that people dont lile case studies which is fair. But SCM improved case studies massively. Opening the door to major clarifications and also possible remedies (jacknife test, donor pool rotations, SDID, etc.). All issues that apply to all other methods (SUTVA per eg) apply here too. Haters probable motivate their hate by reasonable cases of bad papers (I have six in mind and @ez_angus can name names too) but they’re about execution, setting etc. Nothint about the method per se

@VincentGeloso @MWillJr And if that's all it brings to the table then I should treat it about the same as eyeballing, which is to say not convincing.

So proud to celebrate my father @metrics52 at his Festschrift -- a gathering of people and presentations in honor of his career and legacy. He has influenced so many: generations of Angrists and a rockstar student family tree. An impressive array of causal effects!

If you weren't there for the dark ages of: • Chris Duhon • Howard Eisley • Glen Rice • Shandon Anderson • Clarence Weatherspoon • Malik Rose • Jared Jeffries • Renaldo Balkman Then today’s success doesn’t mean as much to you. We really survived the shit of the shit.

The question as ever is what will Democrats do to welcome voters disillusioned with Trump but who didn’t like the Biden administration and felt Harris was too much continuity with a policy program they rejected.
.@GregTSargent

Little by little, Trump is shrinking MAGA down to its molten core. *Alienating noncollege/rural whites *and* Latinos/young *Forcing disloyal Rs out of GOP *Demanding Rs fund ballroom *Insisting Rs defend 1/6 slush fund *Wrecking economy with tariffs/war newrepublic.com/article/210855…

@MWillJr They’ve been very good. If the WCF goes at least six and there is at least one more Game 1-level battle, the Knicks have a chance in the finals.

@MWillJr Coincidental with a solid lead at half of game three, already up 2-0 in the series? (If so, not as well as you. Franz Wagner’s injury was a setback.)

@CoachMcCartan You’re right. He should have dragged the franchise into a public, political campaign rally featuring the most corrupt administration in U.S. history first. Oh wait….

@Noahpinion I see your “the Black-White racial conflict is petering out as both groups age and decline” and raise you a gutting of the Voting Rights Act.

@mattyglesias They made the Mandalorian and Grogu movie the first Star Wars movie on the big screen since The Rise of Skywalker. They have run this franchise into the ground. Also, Maul was great but I would be OK not seeing another story between episodes 3 and 4 in my lifetime…

Ten years ago, it would have been inconceivable to me for the release of a new Star Wars feature film to be this little of a big deal. The Last Jedi / Rise of Skywalker fiasco destroyed a staggering amount of cultural and economic value.

@CarlBanksGIII @JEVos17 Carl, you are one of the most thoughtful Giants legends of all-time. Is it more so that you don’t care or don’t care to share your opinion (which I respect)? It’s hard for me not to care when the Voting Rights Act has been gutted and federal agents took American lives last year.

@RalphVacchiano Ralph, “politics are divisive” works for minimum wage debates. The immoral actions of this administration are common knowledge. Dart endorsed these actions as soon as he stepped on stage and invoked the franchise at a campaign rally. He deserves unilateral blame as a team leader.

... Politics today are divisive. Jaxson Dart publicly taking a side comes with consequences. Same with Abdul Carter's reaction. You can already see how divisive it is amongst fans. It'll be the same amongst players. The coach has to stop it before it becomes a problem.

@BrandonTierney So Dart gets to participate in a *public campaign rally*, but Carter is not equally entitled to make his disdain for this *political* event known? Sounds like it’s first amendment rights for some athletes and “shut up and dribble” for others….

@geneclemons They make it really hard not to believe that there are two sets of rules for Black and White athletes: - White athletes get first amendment rights in the form of public campaign rallies; - Black athletes get first amendment rights in the form of “shut up and dribble.”

Lawrence Tynes is completely tone deaf right here. He's doing what he claims Carter is doing except Carter has every right to be dumbfounded by the actions he addressed. This is not something he saw in the lockerroom and brought to the public, this was done for the world to see.
Lawrence Tynes@lt4kicks

The locker room is a sacred place because it brings together everyone from all walks of life and beliefs for one common goal. Calling a teammate out publicly for his political views and to get attention is nasty work.
