God gave human beings free will....the ability to choose between good and evil. Slavery wasn’t created by God, it was the result of people choosing greed, power and cruelty over what is right. The fact that evil happened doesn’t mean God supported it; it means humans misused the freedom they were given. Throughout that suffering, many people held onto faith because they believed God was with them, even in their oppression , giving them strength to endure and hope for justice. So the real issue isn’t where God was it’s how humanity chose to act with the freedom it had.
