@TerryBattenberg Not right away But it changed my understanding of what “serious preparation” actually looked like The biggest jump wasn’t just physically It was realizing everybody there was talented so your habits, discipline, recovery, mindset, and consistency started mattering a lot more

My high school coach worked us hard. But nothing compared to college baseball. That first week on campus, I was so sore I could barely take a step longer than 6 inches. That’s when I realized: There are levels to this game.

@MatthewMKE98 It is much more important that he gets regular at bats. He wouldn’t get that in Milwaukee and we have players coming back from injury. You also have to factor in service time and options too.

@wshwildcat @barstoolsports Not true. Spring sports schedules are official until mid-winter. It’s also a simple switch for an AD to make.

@marcie_comtois @FixingEducation Athletics is 1% of the budget for schools and plays a major role in attendance, graduation, and community support for the school. That sounds like a pretty good investment to me.

Sure, communities can take over some arts programs, but making communities take over afterschool sports is not the same as cutting gym, music, art, band, chorus, and orchestra. Cutting music, art, band, chorus, and orchestra—which are classes offered during the school day, especially for students who want to go into those fields—is not a good solution. These classes are part of the school curriculum and provide structured learning, trained teachers, and equal access for all students. Fine Arts classes in school help students build creativity, discipline, teamwork, and career skills, and removing them takes away opportunities for students who rely on school to learn and grow in these areas. Therefore, communities can support the arts, but they should not replace arts education in schools.

Should schools in America run sports programs, or should local communities take them over like in parts of Europe? This wouldn’t eliminate sports, just shift them to club systems and free up school resources for academics. Would this be better for students?

@FixingEducation With budget cuts they don't cut sports but cut the arts. What about those kids who will never be athletes they deserve to have something in school they can excel at. Yeah have the communities take over sports.

@CoachSwit We have a giant marsh behind the 3rd base dugout, woods with a river down the LF line, woods about 40 feet behind home plate, and woods just past the OF fence. Lose a lot of baseballs

Losing baseballs during a game might be the most underrated frustration in H.S. baseball. Not cheap. Adds up fast. Foul ball… gone. Warm-up ball… gone. Start with a bucket— finish half empty. Can anyone relate?

@ButchBaseball29 I’m all for what is best for the player. I encouraged a talented catcher to try out for a quality travel team. I also have seen kids play for “B” travel teams and not develop at the rate as what we do in our community program.

That’s sad, but like a lot of families whose children travel… you did what you thought was best for your child. In a perfect world, high level baseball would be free.
Bill B 🇺🇸⚾️🇻🇦 🇺🇦🇮🇱@WFB3Sox

@ButchBaseball29 I volunteered 4 years trying that. As soon someone developed, they got pulled away. Once, we picked a all-star team to play 2 tourneys in summer & late fall, thinking hybrid might keep more in the league, but almost all those players left. So, I gave in and put my kids in travel.

@BrewPack8 I think it is silly that both Brewers and Cubs fans continue to argue about it. It must drive engagement tho.

@tracebrowning @andyinsix Actually a pretty cool story (the Federal League that is) Walter Johnson was very close to going to the Federal League because they got paid more and the reserve clause in his contract was used to legally keep him from playing.

@andyinsix Me too. It’s the only sport where something like that can really happen because there are so many teams that only existed for like a season or two

The WHO of WHAT LEAGUE?!
OptaSTATS@OptaSTATS

The @Brewers are the third MLB team in the modern era with at least 45 runs and 15 stolen bases through six games of a season. The others were the 1976 Cincinnati Reds (won World Series) and the 1915 Brooklyn Tip-Tops of the Federal League.

@TeachHoopsBBall If kid believe that basketball, or any sport for that matter, is more fun and rewarding than their other options or that it is the “cool” and “social” thing to do, you get and keep numbers.

@TeachHoopsBBall There are so many things that are fighting for kids attention these days that the program system wide needs to focus on recruiting kids from the district and keeping them. A lot of times, that means the head coach being very active in youth programs.

High school basketball numbers are shrinking, and it scares me. We talk about basketball as a builder of discipline, teamwork, and grit. But what happens when fewer kids get the chance? Coaches, players, parents, are we doing enough to keep the game alive?

@CoachSwit @CoachMarcusHill Each situation is different. I encouraged one of our 16 year olds to try out for a very good travel team as he needs the competition in the summer if he wants to reach his potential. I’ve also seen players get passed up who opted to play for a “B or C” team.

Most Parents won’t admit it but their kid is on a travel team because they get along with the other parents. Don’t care about winning or development or facilities or college placement they literally just pay thousands for their own sideline social club so they can post pictures on social media to keep up their public social status.

From a travel ball coach watching school ball….. Can we just get the kids to hustle out to their position? Standards are way too low. It’s gross to watch.

NEW: Potawatomi Casino Hotel CEO Dominic Ortiz calls on Gov. Evers to sign a bill legalizing online sports betting. "Governor, pull all the tribes together and listen. Listen to what we're saying." Evers said last week he's concerned not all of the state's tribes are on board.
