15 months ago, @fordnation called an election 17 months early. He needed a mandate to deal with Trump! How’s that going? Without the early call, Ontario would be headed to the polls in 6 weeks and none of his secret agenda would in play. No Bill 33 No retroactive FOI changes No Bill 101 No Billy Bishop Airport appropriation No jet purchases No new plans to fill in part of the Toronto waterfront to build a new convention centre No ‘Protect Ontario’ ads that the Auditor General determines are partisan in nature and not public service announcements These are major developments in which the Ontario electorate was not consulted. The Premier acts unilaterally and expects a parade. Premier Ford had an election campaign to share his plans, debate the pros/cons and give voters an opportunity to decide. #onpoli #onted

Are not all children in Ontario, entitled by law to an education? How are children who are disabled and their family supposed to manage their education. This government is extinguishing their futures before they even get started. We are watching the eugenics of public education.

TDSB says 300+ staff cuts won't impact classrooms. But educators warn "students will pay" as cuts hit systems around them - outdoor learning, mental health supports, even cafeterias: "it's a dangerous dismantling of systems supporting student well-being." thetrillium.ca/news/education…

@krushowy @TorontoStar @Izzy74 The goal should be graduation. Per student funding is 203k from jk-grade 12. Spending a little extra to assist students in need that helps put them on a trajectory to graduation is a brilliant investment. The dream of education belongs to all children, assist those who need help!

Everyday there’s a new announcement of more education cuts made by @PaulCalandra and @fordnation Does anybody know how many cuts it takes to fund the purchase of a 2016 Bombardier Challenger 650???

@MacLeanWard2 @PaulCalandra @fordnation Closing the island school at Toronto is the worst mistake that they can make. I attended that school over 50 years ago and I still remember every single detail. City children got to experience nature. I actually went ice fishing. Save the island school.

@Jo_AnnDavis @fordnation I first got elected the year Ford did (2018), and this gap has been a major budget concern every year since at the TDSB. I agree that the gap dates further back but the challenges have grown exponentially under this government.

Trustees have been talking about this funding gap since @fordnation was elected, he’s provided funding that hasn’t kept pace with inflation or fully addressed Special Education needs. Some students, through no fault of their own, need extra support to meet their full potential.

A universal belief, education must be treated as an investment. We have a moral responsibility to our kids but society benefits monetarily too. Educated people are likely to be employed, independent & pay taxes. Non grads are more likely to occasionally need social assistance.

The Auditor General released a report today exposing that special education in our schools is terribly underfunded, with school boards to spending an extra $346.7 million above their allocation. Families are facing long waits, educators are overwhelmed, and too many students are not getting the support they need to succeed. Minister Calandra, blaming everyone else without looking in the mirror will not fix the real problems in Ontario’s education system.

@isaaccallan Any decent magician distracts his/her audience with a shiny ball, in this case a portable, last year it was a milkshake. @fordnation and @PaulCalandra have passed Bill 101 to make it easier to underfund education and negatively affect trustee elections!

"The auditor looked at three boards — Toronto Catholic, Peel and Upper Canada — and said that about one in three students in Toronto and Peel languished on a wait-list for an assessment by a specialist for more than a year. Ontario’s school boards are spending almost $400 million more on special education than the government provides, says a special report from the province’s auditor general that urges the government to address long wait-lists for assessments as well as create consistent levels of classroom care for kids."

This should be insulting, alarming and disconcerting for anyone who values democracy in Ontario! Newly passed Bill 101 transfers budgeting (balance their books) from trustees to the CEO (staff). The uncertainty of when supervision ends is negatively affecting ongoing trustee elections. “The eight school boards currently under provincial supervision will need to balance their books and even post surpluses before they can get their powers back, says Education Minister Paul Calandra.” The 💰💰💰 challenges in Ontario school boards result directly from Education Ministry funding that hasn’t kept pace with inflation. The Auditor General’s report today will address Special Education challenges. During the pandemic, the Ministry encouraged school boards to use their reserves and now complains that the reserves were depleted. @fordnation and @PaulCalandra have hand picked the supervisors and passed new laws ensuring that staff and not trustees ARE responsible for the financial management of school boards. Intentionally interfering in the trustee elections in these eight jurisdictions that represent approximately 40% of Ontario’s public school students, should be offensive to anyone who values democracy. The public in these eight jurisdictions deserve clean, fair and transparent elections. As long as @fordnation is holding trustees responsible for something they no longer control, he is raising doubts as to whether the newly elected trustees will ever get to be sworn in. Raising the likelihood that good candidates may not step forward and increasing the possibility that Minister Calandra will be positioned to actually appoint trustees. This incredibly vague position of @fordnation must end. Premier Ford must publicly commit to returning trustees in the 8 supervised boards on November 15, 2026 when newly elected trustees throughout Ontario are to be sworn in. #onpoli #onted
