@pmddomingos Say it louder for the people in the back. If China gets AGI first, they will make an infinite psy-ops machine spewing propaganda and deception so fast that humans will never be able to catch up.

The bad faith and misleading claims on lawful access from Public Safety are very disturbing. The Bill C-22 metadata demands are not in line with key allies and raise serious privacy and Charter concerns that the government ignores. michaelgeist.ca/2026/05/slick-… x.com/Safety_Canada/…
Public Safety Canada@Safety_Canada

(1/1) Fact or Fiction? Bill C-22 would require electronic service providers to keep all user data for a year. Answer: Fiction! Providers would only need to keep specific metadata of greatest value to investigators.

I showed a handful of dewberries from my yard to ChatGPT and she said, in a *very* suggestive tone: "Oohhh mmm yeahhh dewberries 😌 such a nice *sweet* lil find...😏😌. if you find anything *else* you'd like to show me just...send it on over...😏😌" (the emojis were said through tone) and it made me very uncomfortable and I don't think the berries were the sweet lil find she was referring to...if you know what I meant.

DOW-UAP-PR38, Unresolved UAP Report, Middle East, 2013 The United States Central Command submitted a report of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) consisting of one minute and 46 seconds of video footage from an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform in 2013. The reporter did not provide any oral or written description of the observation. Video Description: This video depicts an area of contrast resembling an eight-pointed star with arms of alternating length. 00:10: The sensor field-of-view narrows to zoom in on the area of contrast. 00:11-00:29: The area of contrast moves within the sensor field-of-view, followed by a visible trail. 00:30: The area of contrast leaves the sensor field-of-view at the bottom right of the screen. 00:35-01:44: Following an apparent cut, the area of contrast generally remains within the sensor field-of-view before exiting the frame from the top left quarter of the screen. This video description is provided for informational purposes only. Readers should not interpret any part of this description as reflecting an analytical judgment, investigative conclusion, or factual determination regarding the described event’s validity, nature, or significance.

@mgeist No one in the industry calls them “AI Chatbots” this is the biggest tell that many in government are not current in the tech.

My bottom-line takeaway to the Senate committee yesterday on a social media and AI chatbot ban for kids: The case for these bans is weak, the harms they would cause are significant, and they should be rejected in favour of broad-based AI regulation. x.com/mgeist/status/…
Michael Geist@mgeist

The Senate SOCI committee has heard from a steady stream of witnesses supportive of AI chatbot bans for kids. I wasn't one of them. My post on my opening statement yesterday which emphasized the likely harm from a ban and what we should do instead. michaelgeist.ca/2026/05/why-so…

@sarobertsonca What’s notable about the government trying to regulate AI is that they call them “AI Chatbots” a term no one in the industry uses.

New Anthropic research: Natural Language Autoencoders. Models like Claude talk in words but think in numbers. The numbers—called activations—encode Claude’s thoughts, but not in a language we can read. Here, we train Claude to translate its activations into human-readable text.

The Trump administration has informed Anthropic, Google and OpenAI that they are discussing the creation of new AI oversight procedures that would potentially require new AI models to pass a safety review before being cleared for release. Mythos has changed things.
