This morning I rode my bike to work along with some friends and staff, and learned more about the challenges and successes we’ve had as a City when making our streets more bike friendly. There’s a lot of great projects underway - stay tuned! #BikeSTL #FriendlyStreets

I lived in that neighborhood and know that intersection well. It is scary and dangerous on a bike, and nearly impossible on foot. The city proposal is to keep the status quo, a three lane drag strip to maximize traffic flow. We can do a lot better than this!

Below is Tower Grove Park--the second largest park in Saint Louis and a gem to the region. This is a story about @STLCityGov and its engineering consultant @lochgroup sacrificing access to that park and the safety of the children who play there to cars.

@alexiszotos This is a terrible design choice which will encourage more speeding and make crossing by foot or bike all but impossible. An opportunity lost

There is no lane reduction on Kingshighway next to Tower Grove Park. Nor is there an additional crosswalk across the six lanes at the entrance on Kingshighway.

@danielledonfro @lochgroup Couldn't agree more. The proposal is a step back, and prioritizes the convenience of drivers over the safety of the community. A median between Magnolia and Arsenal would moderate car speeds and make crossing at Reber much safer

Immediately south of the park, KB has fewer lanes. But despite calls from the neighborhoods to remove a lane along the park @lochgroup recommended that the city preserve all 6 lanes and made no plans to add a crosswalk to connect the schools on KB to the main park entrance.

@CaraSpencerSTL Recent utility work on Gravois created a temporary median which slowed traffic down and made crossing by foot or bike so much easier. We need pedestrian islands along the entire stretch

Gravois is one of the most dangerous roads within in our City. Another pedestrian was killed by hit and run just two weeks ago. This road is maintained by MODOT. Come see proposed plans to improve saftey tonight at 6pm. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Check out the calm traffic on Gravois & Pestalozzi today. A natural experiment in traffic calming, and crossing by bike / ped is a breeze (if you avoid the ditch!). We talk about stopping traffic violence - why can’t we always have this? @streetsblogkea @RyanWKrull @Trailnet

@streetsblogkea Agree. Most don’t feel safe riding on StL streets for good reason. But world naked bike ride & ghost ride show you can have safe large group rides in the city at night - for free! Maybe barricading city streets for hours isn’t the best way to show how accessible riding can be

This is sad, but IMO, what's even sadder is the fact that we need to shut down intersections and employ a full security detail for people of all ages and abilities to feel safe biking at night in STL in the first place. We deserve safe streets every day and night, 365, period.
