1/A few years into my career, I started a quiet game at #ASCO. I would stop at a poster, read the title, and try to work out what the team actually had going for them. Do this for the past 5 years and a pattern appears:

Cancer survival in the U.S. just crossed 70%. It was 63% in the 1990s. That gap = 4.8M people alive today. This one chart captures survival gains across 29 cancer types. The wins are real. So is the unfinished work. ▪️CML: 31% → 72% ▪️Multiple myeloma: 32% → 62% ▫️Kidney: 59% → 82% ▫️Metastatic melanoma: 16% → 35% ▫️Childhood ALL: 80% → 92% But some cancers barely moved. Cervical cancer outcomes actually worsened. None of this is abstract progress, though. These are birthdays, grandkids, and years of life returned. This is what funded science does. Next time someone asks if cancer research works, show them this (full) chart. - - - - - Source: ACS Cancer Statistics 2026 · SEER · 𝘷𝘪𝘢 @Jori_health - - - - -

Every cancer drug you prescribe today was once an NIH grant nobody noticed. Pharma celebrates launches. Few notice the 20–40 year runway behind that. Gleevec took 41 years from NIH-funded discovery of the Philadelphia chromosome → FDA approval. Behind every “breakthrough” sits a graveyard of failed attempts that made it possible. Cut that lineage today, the next Gleevec doesn’t arrive in 2067. Funded science matters. If someone says NIH funded science is inefficient, show them this. - - - - - Source: NIH RePORTER · FDA · via @Jori_health - - - - -

Early phase daraxonrasib trial data out. Safety study (with high grade 3 AEs). For those looking for some idea of response, appears to be about 30-35%, median duration 8mo in previously treated PDAC
NEJM@NEJM

In a phase 1–2 study of daraxonrasib, treatment-related adverse events of grade 3 or higher occurred in 30% of patients with previously treated RAS-mutated pancreatic cancer, and up to 35% of patients had an objective response. Today I learned that celecoxib, when given in addition to standard chemo for three years after surgery, can reduce colon cancer recurrence in cancers with PIK3CA activating mutations.

No, you should not actually have to personally experience something before you can show compassion to another human being who is currently experiencing it. You shouldn’t even have to know someone personally who’s experienced it. That’s what makes it compassion.

I lost my mom to complications from chemotherapy. We should be doing everything we can to prevent unnecessary chemo. Fantastic talk by @JeanneTie using #ctDNA MRD-guided therapy to do just that. #AACR26 @AACR

I wrote this in a moment I never would have chosen. A sudden pause that made me see my life clearly. The meaning of our work is profound. This experience simply helped me see more clearly what matters most. “Time is Finite” JAMA jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

“Never” is a mindset. Critical to continue to be open-minded and inventive as we work to improve cancer treatments.

Headed to #AACR26, the same week we had practice changing clinical trial data in #PancreaticCancer with a KRAS inhibitor. Reminded of this critique that @Pasca_Lab received on her grant in 2013 - "There are not, and will never be, KRAS inhibitors". Keep calm & science on!

Missed this preclinical data from Revolution Medicines. A new class of RAS(ON) inhibitors that overcomes acquired resistance to Daraxonrasib. All 3 models have mutant KRAS amplification (which confers Daraxonrasib resistance) & RM-055 flattens the growth curve! 😳

Hot off the press @NatureMedicine — positive ! The challenge is how to develop in a world of #ras targeted therapies — as this keeps moving forward we continue to see expanding options for #pancreatic #cancer a disease previously thought to be unbeatable— #pancreascancer take notice — we are coming after you! @MayoCancerCare

📈 Adding elraglusib to gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel (GnP) chemo doubled survival rates vs GnP alone in first-line metastatic pancreatic cancer. Key findings from the phase 2 study are shared below 👇👇 #pancsm #Oncology #Cancer | @DevaMahalingam @GIcancerDoc

Her name was Cerina. She was a mother of two. A dentist who graduated with honors. She loved to read, run trails, travel and spend time with her family. And like all too many women who become victims of domestic violence, her husband killed her. cbsnews.com/news/justin-fa…

I am deeply honored to receive the 2026 @AACR Distinguished Patient Advocacy and Engagement Award. I am alive, literally, because of research and those who have devoted their lives to advancing it. But, this recognition is not mine alone. It reflects the work of so many advocates who push for better research, better care, and a deeper understanding of what it means to live with cancer. And it is also only possible by our extraordinary community of scientists, clinicians, organizations, and companies willing to listen, value patient input and understand that lived experience is a form of expertise. Advocacy helped me find my voice and taught me how to transform suffering into purpose. I would not be the advocate I am today without the founders of LUNGevity filling a badly needed gap, and without the many patients, advocates, clinicians, scientists, nurses, organizations, and companies I’ve had the privilege to work alongside. Over the years, I’ve been honored to collaborate with people from all over the world who are committed to making research more relevant, equitable, and humane. I continue to learn from all of them and remain grateful to be a part of the greater cancer community. Thank you to AACR for this incredibly meaningful honor. There is still much more work to do, but today and this weekend, I celebrate how far this community has come and the progress we have made. #AACR26 #CancerResearch #PatientResearchAdvocate #PatientAdvocacy #ResearchMatters #LCSM #LungCancer @EGFRResisters

There are thousands of incredible physicians caring for patients quietly in remote corners of the world, without making it to the author list of medical journals! You won't see them at conferences either, but each one deserves our respect. Each one matters 🙏🏽
