I just don’t think there should be a leadership challenge. Keir Starmer has a massive mandate given to him by the British people at the general election. I don’t think anybody in the Cabinet has a right to try to overturn that. I still hope there won’t be a leadership contest. If there is, it’s probable that Keir will stand himself and in which case, I’d be in his camp. What we need now is continuity. We need Labour to deliver on their manifesto. So an update on Angela Rayner's clean bill of health from HMRC. What we now know is that Rayner demanded of HMRC that they come to a decision in 24hrs (I wonder why she chose that timescale?🤔🤨). They did and cleared her. Just a coincidence that the current head of HMRC is John-Paul Marks who was Yvette Cooper's Private Secretary previously. Bias anyone?🤔 In the meantime Angela says cheers.

This is a good move from Ed. Our part of the North Sea is all but empty of oil and gas, less than 10% remaining and just ten years from being done. Right now it’s a major distraction for the anti 'green economy' voices, who point illogically to more drilling as the answer to the fossil fuel and energy bill crisis we’re enduring again - second one this decade, prob won't be the last. The North Sea oil era is over. We need Energy Independence from our own green sources and vitally we still need to break the link to prevent global oil shocks from driving our wind and sun prices up. Starmer will today announce increased military spending in Kings Speech. This will be almost entirely devoted to anti-Russia/Ukraine Since the war began, UK has dispersed c, £11 billion to Ukraine and committed £28 billion up to 2031 for military purposes. £40 billion = £580 for every person in the UK; it could pay down our debt to save £2 billion/annum in interest; or it could buy 40-50 new Hospitals. This money includes UK contribution to a prior £50 billion ERA loan but does not include UK commitment to the latest £90 billion loan which Starmer describes as *“very good for UK-EU relations, UK defence jobs, and support for Ukraine"*. Nobody believes that Ukraine could ever pay back these loans.
