We know falls have a significant impact on older people's morbidity/mortality. We must address risks but can we please ensure we address this with the potential risk of deconditioning as we know healthcare professionals fear of falls increases the risk of falls & deconditioning

Our final speaker is Jennifer Rankin, Strategic Clinical Nurse Expert with Regulatory Compliance representing @NursingHomesIre who speaks to us about @HSECommHealth1 Falls Prevention Framework. Falls account for 40% of all injury deaths that occur in care homes. 1 in 10 care home residents who fall sustain a fracture. Recommendation to: ◼️ Conduct a multifactorial falls prevention assessment as part of routine care for all older adults. ◼️ Develop targeted and individualised falls prevention plans. ◼️ Post falls assessments. ◼️ Exercise programmes to prevent falls in all residential care facilities. ◼️ Daily or weekly Vitamin D supplements, unless contraindicated. ◼️ Bone health prescription for all with an osteoporosis diagnosis or a history of low trauma fractures. #CAAW24 #MajorTrauma2024 🔗 noca.ie/documents/majo…
