This evening (24), I held a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister @narendramodi regarding the escalating situation in the Middle East. We discussed its impact on regional and global supply chains, as well as energy cooperation and regional security between our two nations.

Sad to learn of the passing of Ambassador Eric Gonsalves, one of the early members of India’s Foreign Service. I have heard senior members of the Sri Lankan Foreign Service speak of him with great respect. His long years of distinguished service and scholarship will be remembered. May he rest in peace.

Eric Gonsalves, 97, one of Nehru's First Recruits into Indian Foreign Service passed away on Sunday, his family has announced. He served in several legendary postings including in Myanmar 1963-64 when he helped in evacuating more than 300,000 Indians who were expelled by Ne Win.
