It is really worrying that so many pundits of the type the BBC holds high in respect are struggling to admit that some types of bias at the BBC are real. We hope the BBC looks at the content and not at the talking heads. We’ve provided evidence on content around sex and gender, and so have many others. It will be lovely for BBC execs to hear those voices like @arusbridger and @davidyelland which purport to rise above the actual content and talk vaguely about the ‘real’ problem of murky regressive or far right influence. They can have a bit of comfort from them but must lower their heads back to the desk and look at the content. They may even try to muster an argument that the content on sex and gender has not been harmful. But they cannot claim that it has been accurate and impartial. That’s where they have to start. Is it accurate? No, the BBC adopted self-identification of sex. Impartial? It can’t be, because it’s built on the untruth of self-identification. This is a foundational harm in itself, to public understanding, and to trust in the BBC. It can correct this, very quickly. It’s decided (so far) not to, saying it will wait for EHRC guidance, which could take a year. So we are already looking at a refusal (so far) to address the most serious betrayal of its public purpose - not to lie to you. We think that’s journalism 101. Don’t lie. Beyond that, it will have to reach out to the experts it’s ignored all these years and ask them about evidence of harm. But would be wrong to make a decision on self-identification based on evidence of harm alone. The news consumer deserves to be able to make up her or his own mind on harm, based on facts supplied by the broadcaster it pays for under threat of imprisonment. Inaccuracy is a harm in itself. The BBC knows this, that’s why it promises to pursue truth. It knows that not pursuing truth is a bad thing. It has to be laid out very simplistically and baldly like this, because across broadcasters, news execs have been trained to think that only trans activists are experts in this field. By taking it step by step, they can understand that they can be their own experts. Critical thinking is a wonder. Tell the truth, and curate a range of voices around it. They’ve been told they don’t know what the truth is. But they do. They just need to think about it. And then look at the content. Does it reflect the truth? No. So start there.

Why did the BBC mis-edit Trump's speech? Because modern, narrative-led journalism doesn't describe the world, it creates an alternative one. In this self-confirming psychodrama, Trump is only allowed to do evil things. The narrative demands it. #bbcbias #trumpedit #Journalism

@PascalPraud N’oubliez jamais les petits de ceux qui ne reviendront plus. Pourquoi la France désire la guerre? À-t-elle si rapidement oublié son passé?

I am deeply saddened to learn that the Centre for Journalism is to close. Few university schools of journalism have done more than the CFJ to promote inclusion and educate young people who have gone on to superb careers in journalism. pressgazette.co.uk/news/universit…

#Grantham #LNER London to Edinburgh line: Delays due to signalling cables being stolen. Complication on one train stuck stationary outside Peterborough station was a medical emergency. These thefts are not petty. Let’s just hope they catch the thieves who put lives in danger.

Blaming the victims for bringing terrorism on themselves through past actions is a very late 20th century approach still used by the BBC. I blame the Boomers @MajinGraham journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…
