There’s a reason President Trump is respected by world leaders, and it’s because he’s consistently shown a level of strength that we haven’t seen from our Commander in Chief in modern history.

.@POTUS on his state visit to China: "We have a relationship, he and I, and we've been working together a long time. We've gotten along well. When I first came here, China was really taking advantage of the United States—he understands that—and now, we do great with China."

It’s actually really good that Protestants and orthodox are engaging. Both have something in common: disassociation from Catholicism. Let’s debate these things and grow the Kingdom of Heaven.

I can assure everyone that such requests for money are not preventing baptisms. They cover costs of events in parishes. Yes, they also were a historical method to pay the priest who was impoverished himself. If someone had no money then they would not be denied. My personal policy is not to ask for anything but I did not refuse a gift if it is offered.
Jay Dyer@JayDyer

Protestants are making a nothingburger out of a minimal fee many Greek Churches have because baptisms are usually large celebrations, not empty “symbols.” This covers baptismal robe, candles, perhaps icons, and the celebration feast after. Many churches simply ask for a donation. This is nothing, btw, compared to most fundie churches which demand 10% tithe whereas most orthodox churches leave it all voluntary. This is just more ignorant moral gotchas because they have no intellectual arguments for their sects.

@KalaDeeDee @GandalfTheR3d @FrLillie This is what is leading people to question whether or not the church is God to all of you. I’m genuinely interested in Ortho. It’s interesting and I genuinely love how foundational it is. But you can’t get upset at people raising these concerns that are very important

Nobody charges $thousands for any sacrament. If you want to participate in the sacraments of the church, the operating expenses must be funded by the people. Note that the church was the standard for determining which writings were scripture & which were gnostic. If a writing did not agree with the dogma & praxis of the church, it was rejected. The only reason the books were accepted is because they comported with the church already in existence I suggest you go pay the annual operating budget of a church so that the people don’t have to. Go ahead & follow through

@KalaDeeDee @GandalfTheR3d @FrLillie Brother… either your church isn’t tithing enough or there is a misappropriation of funds. There is no reason why this should even be a discussion. You’re telling people they can’t be saved unless this worldly fee is payed. It’s a barrier to salvation set forth by man

Nope. There are no fees for sacraments. There are fees for specially trained workers that are not in the annual budget. The font was bought & is paid for by the parish. The priest is paid out of the annual budget. Until you - YOU- are ready to fund the annual parish budget of $200,000-500,000, I suggest you not judge when we pay special workers needed to assist.

@KalaDeeDee @GandalfTheR3d @FrLillie The canon is a collection of writing. The oral traditions that you say have to take place in order to be saved are not though traditions are mentioned. Now we’re seeing you charge thousands of dollars for a basic pillar of salvation: baptism. Is that a tradition?

Nope. The church is the house of the living God. The ground & pillar of truth. The Holy Spirit guides when all are of one mind. That biblical. The orthodox church overcame paganism, Islamic ottomans, and Bolsheviks remaining undefiled through it all The word genocide was invented by a journalist to describe the mass slaughter of orthodox Christians by the Turks Only that which has been believed from the early church to now is the true faith. The history is with the Orthodox faith- where early Christians wrote about the faith their participated in. For example We have St Irenaeus who learned from St Polycarp who learned from St John the evangelist who learned from the Lord. We have many who are in this chain of succession of the faith preserving what they received. Our worship services are still those of the early church that compiled the bible canon. The first to do so was St Athanasius Patriarch of Alexandria in the 4thc AD All 6000 ancient texts are Greek Orthodox bibles & manuscripts. If you trust our sacred texts you should trust the church lead by God to compile & preserve the texts. Over 1/2 NT is on the Orthodox church. It is shown in Revelation- in full detail. And if you don’t trust the Orthodox church then you really don’t trust its scriptures either

@HadesUndead Martin Luther started the reformation after seeing the church selling sacrament indulgences guaranteeing salvation. If salvation is only found within Eastern Orthodox, and you have to be baptized orthodox to be saved, and you charge for it….

When you get married, you can spend money to buy her a ring, a dress, have a party etc. Marriage is A sacrament. Can your priest wed you for free? Absolutely. Baptism is your marriage to Christ into the church. If you have a party there will be expenses. Can your priest do it for free? Absolutely. Can a church maliciously charge for baptisms? Absolutely . Is that wrong? Absolutely. Is that the model of the church? Absolutely not.

@a_westgate All you’re doing is proving the point of the issue Protestants have been raising since the reform. At what point does one worship the church over the Trinity? Selling sacrament is exactly why Martin Luther went against Catholicism

@KalaDeeDee @GandalfTheR3d @FrLillie And some of the traditions involve believing things that aren’t clearly taught directly from the apostles and because its word of mouth yet your salvation highly depends on it that creates an issue

We don’t gatekeep salvation. We follow what the Apostles taught & do not pridefully invent something else 1Cor11:2 Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. 2Thes2: 15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by WORD or our epistle. We never stopped doing as the Apostles commanded.

@KalaDeeDee @GandalfTheR3d @FrLillie The question isn’t whether or not the traditions should be kept or not. It’s whether or not the traditions kept are actually the traditions and what implications that they have on salvation. Because scripture does not teach that, Paul doesn’t say that either

Take a look at this DEAL at an Orthodox Church in Canada: 50% off Baptism if you pay $300/year to the church. From $800 to $400 (a $400 saving!) And completely FREE if you pay 10% of your annual gross income.

@KalaDeeDee @GandalfTheR3d @FrLillie John baptized Jesus and the Holy Spirit descended. Which is what we all believe as Christian’s happens when one is baptized. So when you gatekeep salvation behind being the only true baptism and salvation you have to answer biblically why. And you know it’s not

@KalaDeeDee @GandalfTheR3d @FrLillie All of that is great but you and I both know that none of that is necessary for baptism to take place. It’s for the spectacle, which is beautiful and I respect it, but you guys are the traditionalists and this is far departed from the tradition set forth by John
