My life has been changed thanks to @BarstoolBigCat advice to get a “car fry” an order of small fries to go along with your large fries that you just in the car on the way home. This is genius.

@tgflake @pimomormon Exploiting someone’s salvation for money is not okay. And if you think it is then we have different morals.

@MakJae9 @pimomormon I don't have any opinion on what the JWs do...strange that you are judgemental about groups you aren't part of...kinda weird way to spend your time.

Mormons need to quit lying about the requirement to pay tithing to enter the temple. You can’t get a recommend for it while being honest. If you don’t pay tithing and you are honest, you will fail the temple recommend interview.

@tgflake @pimomormon No don’t see it as important. Just one is more exploitative than others. But would you have the same opinion if it was about another church? Or is it cuz it’s your system it’s okay ? If it was JWs you wouldn’t feel the same

@tgflake @pimomormon No. One is the church taking wealth from its members. The other “commandments” the church doesn’t take wealth. It isn’t the same

@tgflake @pimomormon Not keeping the word of wisdom doesn’t make the church richer. Stupid comparison.

I think the Church is sensitive to even the appearance of this. Used to be you could rent temple garb, now you can borrow it, and or own your own. Many of the new temples you must own your own. With regard to tithing as indulgences, I can see your read, I don't agree with it any mote than you saying not keeping the word of wisdom is somehow untoward.

@pimomormon What you write is true as far as it goes but it is also true of the other commandments and question in the interview...why are you singling that one out?

@ReformedMormon @stackerco And even if you’re wrong, you lived a pretty darn good life of peace happiness believing in Santa and had great christmases your whole life.

@stackerco And anyway...EVEN IF your hypothetical scenario could be shown to be factual, I would still believe because of the feeling of peace and joy I get every Christmas morning is a witness of Santa I cannot deny.

@YourMomSMorris @stackerco Four gospels were not contemporary. The book of John was 70 years after when Jesus supposedly lived. The book of Mark was the earliest and still was written around 70CE. Sure there was someone named Jesus that was executed by Pilate but that doesn’t mean the gospels are true.

@MakJae9 @stackerco (2/3) These include four, near-contemporary biographies (Gospels) and letters from Paul within 20–30 years of his life. These are supplemented by hostile non-Christian sources (Tacitus, Josephus) that corroborate core facts: he was a Jewish teacher executed by Pontius Pilate.

When you first ask this question, everything changes.

@painkilla6 @stackerco Honestly, what if the real history actually proves that “holy shit, the church is false…”? I’m not being facetious. What if it really were the case? And that has nothing to do with faith. That’s simply a discovery of the reality in our history as a church.

@YourMomSMorris @stackerco No. There is no historical and archaeological evidence that suggests that Abraham existed let alone those before him. The gospels were written decades after Jesus of Nazareth supposedly lived. There is hardly evidence to support any of those stories.

@MakJae9 @stackerco First, are you saying that the Bible is scripture and a historical record by real people? Is that a starting point you’re willing to admit?

@MakJae9 @stackerco Or even maybe it’s filled with absolute salt of the earth people who are trying their best. Yet they are a bit misinformed and repressed. It seems both could be true.

@MakJae9 @stackerco All arguments rest ultimately on premises that cannot be proven but accepted for discussion. Hence the phrase in our Declaration of Independence: we hold these truths to be self-evident. We are talking about religion here. It appears you are a materialist Marxist, so why bother?

@stackerco When my shelf broke in 2018 I had similar feelings. I read up a lot of different things, philosophies, systems, and tried to piece together things from all walks of life I liked. Stoicism, nihilism, Buddhism, Jesus, atheism, Marxism and other revolutionaries, etc. it takes time

I received this DM today and he said I could share it publicly. If the data we’re seeing is accurate from Jeff Strong’s work in torn, there could be up to 30% of members who are PIMO and suffering like this silently. And 40% of members have left the church in the last 20 years. There is no place for them to talk to people and so they suffer these existential crises alone. The dark night of the soul is real. What’s your best advice for people like this? (And yes I know believers will say stuff like go to church, read the BoM and believe again)

@nasamomdele @stackerco Feelings and beliefs are real. But it doesn’t mean they are rational or logical. Someone can believe in the Easter bunny and feel he’s real but it’s not rational nor logical.
