@stackerco @Samuraijrussell Whether LDS or the other current faiths or even the thousands of gods worshipped before they all have one significant commonality. None have definitive data driven proof. Which defies logic if a real supreme being existed, loved us as we are told.

Here is a quintessential example of a judgmental Mormon who thinks Exmormons are simply lost and don’t have spiritual direction in their lives. The hubris and arrogance of such a claim, especially coming from someone who belongs to a church with maybe six million members.

Exmos like to talk about their “journey” But a journey has a meaningful destination. Wandering is not the same as being on a journey. Telling people to go “wherever they want” as if all paths are equally good or valid is the definition of wandering. Somewhere deep down they know this. And somewhere deep down they know they have a thirst they can’t quench.

Almost 30 years ago, Elder D Todd Christofferson visited my mission and taught about the second anointing/calling and election made sure/Holy Spirit of promise. These images are my scriptures with notes about it still in the margin, and the scriptures Christofferson read from to teach it. He didn’t speak of what happens in the ordinance, that was all new to me in just the last few years. Christofferson just spoke on the importance of it. It’s a progression from: Faith Baptism Repentance Obedience Holy Ghost Endure to the end Holy Spirit of Promise Calling and Election made sure My notes you can see in section 88, I remember to be a synopsis of a quote from him that I tried to capture: “They received their calling and election made sure (verse 2).” “It (the second anointing) does not have to happen in this life, but it has to happen to enter the Celestial Kingdom.” Then I remember him pausing and looking around as if that was a daunting realization. Then he said, “But don’t worry about it. Just keep the covenants you made and it will happen here or the next life.”

@RigdonNancy3 Yeah, I should ask my brothers what their blessings say. We all had the same patriarch. I’d bet a nickel they are very similar.

For nearly 1,400 years, it was universally accepted that the earth was the center of the universe. Galileo challenged this “gospel truth.” He said that philosophers opposed his discovery and refused to even look through a telescope. Makes me think about the Book of Mormon.

@TheReeveOliver @painkilla6 @stackerco It’s definitely a good thing to try to hold onto whatever happiness you can, and pulling the threads it is very difficult to go back to a simple peace that once existed.

@partialcontext @painkilla6 @stackerco When my brother started questioning I told him if he could stay in the church and be happy, he should do that. Because once you start pulling on threads you can't unsee things. The historical claims of the church are a huge stumbling block to faith in the religious claims.

“I already knew about the seer stone, & that Joseph Smith married around 40 women, 10 were teenagers & 12 were already married. I already knew about the Book of Abraham translation problems and the different First Vision accounts and the Kinderhook plates and Masonry temple ceremony and the priesthood and restoration timeline issues and Brigham Young’s racism and the council of 50 and destroying the press and all the Book of Mormon anachronisms and contradictions in doctrine and policies. I already knew about blood atonement and Adam God theory. I don’t care about the SEC fine and the abuse coverups.” Okay. Then the question is: why did none of it bother you?

@partialcontext @painkilla6 @stackerco He decided to leave the faith. Not because of historical claims, but once he left and then learned about them it makes it very difficult to rationalize coming back.

@RandomLDS That has a “keep sweet and obey” feel to it. Honestly, that’s how religion got to this point. Realistically, people should keep in their own lanes, but the internet has eliminated the ability to do so. Yes, we could simply turn it off and walk away. I don’t dislike this idea

If our loudest critics on X spent more time testifying of Jesus than they did targeting members of His church, they'd see their own discipleship deepen as they emulated their Savior.

I only share this to show it isn’t “open and shut” as originally claimed. Anytime anyone claims it is, they likely are speaking facetiously and/or too confidently. If this the the silver bullet for “Mormonism” so be it. To each their own. But don’t take what anyone (even me) says at face value. Read Ponder Search Study Critically think Pray Fast Etc Don’t take what amateurs like myself share online at face value. Especially in regard to spiritual matters. (There were many more arguments outlined but I can only share so many images in the OP. Sorry!)

Deutero Isaiah is the open and shut evidence that the Book of Mormon is not historical. There is no way certain chapters of Isaiah could have been on the brass plates. It’s really time members talked about the book as a transformational/spiritual but not a historical.

@partialcontext @jaredadairbell Then surely you can understand why people don't leave the church alone. They simply want to protect others from what they see as a fraudulent, aggressive & harmful religion.

@MattTestifies I appreciate it when mormons just admit that they believe just because they believe. Trying to prove something like the book of Abraham as authentic with evidence is impossible. I appreciate your honesty here

The funniest part of Book of Abraham discourse is watching people act like Latter-day Saints have never heard the argument before. We have. Some of us still read it and hear God.

@Lovemyproxy @ThisMomSaid Then let’s open it up to Buddhists, Hinduism, and other beliefs…. That’s the whole point here. I never said Muslims believed Jesus is the Savior or God. I simply said they think they have the truth.

@ThisMomSaid @jaredadairbell @Lovemyproxy Good insight. We probably won’t have time to hash it all out, but I’m glad you shared your story. That is the stuff that the church actually needs. Then, regardless of truth vs not, the people can meet in a place of love and empathy.

You’re welcome. I hear you. I had my own moments with that. I ultimately had to work through a few things. 1. Was I there? 2. Who wrote the accounts and were they friends or foes? 3. Does it change the gospel? They may sound flippant. But I really did go through this… and something hit me really hard. A few years ago, a HORRIBLE rumor was spread about me. It stemmed from a text that was misunderstood then completely taken out of context AND misconstrued. It was then amplified and spread. I was hearing it from everywhere and nobody thought to just come to me and ask if it were true or what my side of the story was. I ended up defending myself nonstop. It ruined relationships. I had a few people stand up for me and refused to buy into it because it was completely out of my character and they knew it. This literally went on for years! In fact… the last person to believe it, was one of the first people that heard it and they finally talked to me about it last year! It was HELL. I know this sounds random… but going through this, actually made me understand how things can be so completely skewed. So, unless I was there, I’m giving grace. I’m not listening to enemies and foes because their intentions aren’t pure. And ultimately the truth never changed, no matter how much people wanted to change it. Anyway… I don’t know if any of this made sense or resonated, it’s late and it was long. I pray that maybe something positive comes out of it. Take care 🙏🏻

@JasminRappleye Have you ever been paid by the church to create content? I don’t think Stacker said you aren’t too good to do your own work, but that he suspects that you are making content FOR the church.

@JakeMakin13 @nicoraytruth It’s hard to look at it that way, for me. I was raised in the church and had a good experience. Unfortunately I can’t follow the rabbit hole back to where I started, but it’s really hard to not be grateful for my roots. Lots of good people trying to do the right thing.
