Exogenous DMT administration produces ataxia, tremor, slowed movements, and erratic motor output, transient effects that, if sustained chronically, could manifest as the motor planning deficits, clumsiness, and speech production difficulties observed in ASD. The profound speech impairment in many autistic individuals may reflect not cognitive-linguistic deficits per se, but rather motor planning and execution failures at the level of articulatory control, consistent with psychedelic disruption of fine motor sequencing. Seeking participants in the San Francisco Bay Area for an IRB-approved research study. We are enrolling individuals ages 10-30 with severe nonspeaking or minimally speaking autism who are able to communicate by spelling. This study, conducted in collaboration with LSU, Stanford Medicine, and UC Davis, measures psychoactive tryptamines, including DMT and bufotenin, in saliva, stool, and blood samples.
