End of the launch day post: A lot of podcasts asked me why I wrote the book. I have my answer now. I wrote this book to wrench the claws of a demon out of the hearts and minds of the people of God. That demon’s name is Mammon. Read for more.

@joci_sorrell @HolyPost_Media Hey, Joci! My point is that none of those things are worthy of seeking in terms of priority. Many Christians are distracted by those passions (greed and vainglory) instead of seeing union with God as the only thing worth chasing. God wants us to be Christlike.

The people of God have always craved power, wealth, and cultural influence, and God has always told us we don't need those things. All we need is him. @malcolmbfoley at An Afternoon with the Holy Post

Honest question, because I'm curious: Is there any industry or cultural space that private equity has touched that has ended up stronger, healthier, and better for the people and society it serves?

In a groundbreaking endeavor, the University of Utah athletics is entering into what could be a $500M+ equity partnership with Otro Capital featuring the creation and shared ownership of a for-profit entity to operate athletics, sources tell @YahooSports. bit.ly/44hUcZJ

@bulariat What a farce. If you’re going to peddle an “anti-greed” gospel. Shouldn’t the book be free? And not $24.99. Sounds like Professor Foley has borrowed a page from the Bernie Sanders playbook.

This morning I got to spend a luxurious three hours with the Brazos Fellows slowly unpacking Cyril of Alexandria's account of the unity of Christ, and reflecting together on the great mystery of the Word becoming flesh. Pretty great for a Thursday morning, if you ask me.

@mattleeanderson I think you're on to something there. The Sermon on the Mount could be seen as preparation for Mount Tabor and Mount Zion, where the beatific vision is the principal (or even only!) theme.

Thesis: the Sermon on the Mount offers a Christologically-oriented reconfiguration of the nature and content of human glory. "Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."
Matthew Lee Anderson@mattleeanderson

Given that the Sermon on the Mount takes up: blessing anger/murder among brothers (an allusion to Cain/Abel) lust/divorce/remarriage oaths/retaliation/enemies almsgiving/publicity/prayer/fasting/hypocrisy treasures/work anxiety about food/drink/clothing just perception/truthful action it is *incredible* that it does not mention fertility/procreation.

@j_rhett Got a sermon in the morning on 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5 provocatively titled “Why I’m Not a Bible-Believing Christian”. I agree wholeheartedly.

Seeing lots of “well actually” takes on this. And they’re not necessarily wrong. True revival isn’t measured by app downloads and streams. But this is also clear evidence that a growing number of people are searching for spiritual meaning and purpose and finding it in Christian sources. For Christians, I really think our first thought should be “wow, what an opportunity we have to meet, walk alongside, and disciple people who want to know Jesus!”
Fox News@FoxNews

IN GOOD FAITH: The U.S. is seeing a Christian revival as Bible sales and downloads of religious apps and music surge nationwide.

Wow, when I was six years old, I didn’t realize the O’Jay’s For the Love of Money was an analysis of an U.S. idol that has stood the test of time. 💵🇺🇸 The Scriptures know us and our temptations … greed, theft, covetousness, and partiality. We need repentance and sanctification

The Anti-Greed Gospel by @MalcolmBFoley is quite the treatise for our current moment on how to discern the difference between the gospel of Jesus vs the gospel of Caesar.

@danieleleven32 Even in the long civil rights movement, Bayard Rustin is one of the few folks who fit consistently in the anti-violent camp, even calling MLK to account.

@danieleleven32 Not in the sense that I argue in the book, insofar as folks could have the nonviolence without the economic critique. As you know, this was my dissertation and the heroes of my dissertation were Grimke and Wells. But both had their flaws.

Read, and LOVED, @MalcolmBFoley's book The Anti-Greed Gospel. Highly recommend My one quibble is that I think Francis Grimké and Ida B. Wells. I think they stand and fall together: Grimké's "bullets" would have been fired from Well's "Winchester" goodreads.com/review/show/79…

@danieleleven32 Heh heh I know, brother. What I lift up in my hero Ida is the breadth of her creativity and her relentless perseverance. She never settled with the Winchester; rather she saw it as one of many options. I say it’s not an option, of course, which is apparently controversial!
