I was taking his free zoom classes on Plato’s Republic that he was hosting and I think he possibly had a heart attack in the middle of the Book II stream.
He started coughing really intensely and then shut the stream down. He returned for book III the next week though.
I don’t think we ever got past book IV and he passed away. I still watch his old videos though.

In order to get a PhD you need to write a dissertation that either adds completely new arguments from new or existing data that isn’t known to scholarship yet or you have to debunk/replace previously accepted scholarship that you can prove to be outdated by bringing to light new data or arguments that changes the paradigm/consensus on a particular subject.
There is no “selection”.
You go out and earn one by doing good research.
The peer-review process for phd dissertations is only checking sources and citations and making sure the dissertation is accurately arguing objectively from the data.
For example, if I say that “Euripides Bacchae was written in 408 BCE” and the peer reviewer checks that and says “no this was written in 405 BCE”.
They can’t just reject your dissertation because they don’t like your argument.
You look dumb when you say shit like this. People from all points of views get PhDs.
