what i dont understand is why occupy the island instead of simply knocking out port infrastructure to prevent loading if that's the objective. my context is thin and i imagine there are good reasons but i am curious what could justify the cost

@ToughSf That's pretty much a stowed Starlink form factor. Make it 20 km long, and Hall effect thrusters can survive and do the rest.

@SpaceX After you mass driver stuff into space, how do you control where the payload goes without it drifting off course? and is this mainly for sending stuff from the Moon on to Mars or something else?

@politicalmath @Variety After the avalanche of dumping on a dead Paul Ehrlich around here, I'm not sure who believes that's a principle at all. Ehrlich was a villain and earned it, sure, but "don't speak ill of the dead" doesn't seem to be a sincerely held principle by anybody.

No one at @Variety feels bad about this attempt to shit on the dead. They might say that it was poorly timed or in bad taste, but they all believe it was moral, correct, righteous It's the people who have respect for the dead who are wrong

1) This is a good community note and, while it technically is not in the spirit of community notes, I'm going to allow it 2) It's important to note that you cannot shame the liberal media monolith into acting like decent humans. They do not feel bad when they do evil things.

Chick Norris does not go to heaven. Heaven comes to Chuck Norris.
Variety@Variety

Chuck Norris, the martial arts champion who became an iconic action star and led the hit series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” has died. He was 86. Norris was hospitalized in Hawaii on Thursday, and his family posted a statement saying he had died Friday morning: It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace. To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family. He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives. While our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the life he lived and for the unforgettable moments we were blessed to share with him. The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for it. To him, you were not just fans, you were his friends. We know many of you had heard about his recent hospitalization, and we are truly grateful for the prayers and support you sent his way. As we grieve this loss, we kindly ask for privacy for our family during this time. Thank you for loving him with us. variety.com/2026/film/news…

The most powerful Bluetooth signal interacts with the same molecule only once every 100 seconds. That's 10^-15 as much as would be needed to constructively vibrate the molecule. For phone signals 100x more powerful that's still at most 10^-13 as much as required. The only significant effect is thermal. I would recommend learning more physics to correct your intuition, because it's wildly off. That's most people, however, so don't feel bad. But okay, let's look at the study. The video I posted is relevant because it showed how studies can be totally meaningless and still get spread by ignorant people biased against technology. This one is fun because it's the opposite bias. But let's look at this specific one, shared by a guy who can't capitalize his sentences and says stuff like "a increased risk." I'll posit some ways in which it could be wrong that are each stronger than what you posited for a mechanism: 1. Survival bias/confounding (biggest issue highlighted by everyone) 2. Possible subtle thermal effects / warming (ironic) 3. Blinding limitations 4. Housing/exposure system artifacts 5. Unrealistic exposure 6. Statistical & multiple-testing issues 7. Researcher handling & other rat effects 8. Species/sex specificity & inconsistency 9. Reanalysis-specific limitations 10. Broader context & lack of replication Details: grok.com/share/c2hhcmQt…

@rocketrepreneur If Coloradoans were as self promoting as Texans, Texans would know that Colorado is bigger than Texas. They just haven't flattened it out yet.

I really like the Pacific Northwest too. It's probably where I'd want to live if Colorado wasn't an option. And Coloradoans typically aren't as self-promotional as say Texans tend to be. But it was still funny.

A single weak photon is not a sustained driver of mechanical bending and torsion in large proteins and enzymes, plausibly moderating their action or binding. That was what I suggested, and you’re still 1) not addressing that the rats and mice lived longer under RF irradiation, and 2) arguing against ionization and tumors, as if anybody claimed that. Tedious, time-wasting laziness.

A single infrared photon can come from any warm object, including inside the human body itself. And multiple photons don't combine to create higher energy photons except in rare media like crystals where green laser light is synthesized. Such a weak photon can only meaningfully transfer heat to the human body. And I wasn't talking about the quoted thread. I had already addressed that one. The image shared at the top here just had no source. x.com/LDS_Science/st…

Hi. For those with chronic insomnia, try this: as soon as you settle in bed, close your eyes, and breathe in imitation of the rhythm-- not sound, but rhythm-- of snoring. If you're in bed with another, imitate theirs. If you need a BS neuroscience explanation, consult a podcast.

@LDS_Science @cremieuxrecueil @veritasium It dissipates as heat, yes. It could modulate the behavior and interaction between molecules before it does. You asked for a possible mechanism, and I obliged. It's still your turn to posit where the analysis that showed *some effects* above is wrong. Tumors are not all effects.

@LDS_Science @cremieuxrecueil Driving frequency could be near resonances of longer, more complex molecules, introducing errors to trigger hormesis. Just to humor your question. Now it's your turn to posit how the data that shows there was something doesn't actually.

Of course you can "buy consent." This isn't a theoretical moral conversation - what I said is an empirical rule in law, far beyond this niche area. If you ask me to sell my beloved family home...I say no...you put 500 stacks on the table...and I say yes, that is a legal sale. It would not be contested in any state of the Union. The same applies to the body - re MMA, surrogacy, professional sport, military service, etc. I myself have had two jobs - nightclub bouncing and winter-time street canvassing - that literally involved standing around in the snow fighting people. I would not have done this for free. But, I was offered ($25) an hour and was fine taking that wage. Etc etc. You can discuss violence work for males or sex work for women through various ethical lenses, but it would be just meaningless nonsense to say I was a victim of "kidnapping" or "robbery" while in these roles.

Yet another thing that is not rape, assuming no trafficking, is having sex with adult sex workers who ask you to do so and accept money for this happening. "You cannot buy consent!!!" That is quite literally what work is.
