@CryptoMikli Why is "landlords make less money" even seen as the moral position? Say that about any worker. "Hey, wouldn't it be great if you just made less money so you could charge your customers less"?

Caleb Hammer explains why rent control doesn’t work “It’s one of those policies that sounds really good and really moral. You want to support it, landlords make less money and people pay less rent. But everywhere it’s been enacted, permitting has dropped significantly, and rents have gone up even faster for the average person, except for the few lucky ones in subsidized housing” “Units go untouched and aren’t maintained at all. I think something like 10-20% of rent controlled units in New York are empty because they can’t be brought up to standard, since it’s not worth investing in. In Massachusetts, rent control was a complete disaster and had to be repealed. In San Francisco, the moment they introduced it, permitting dropped. It just hasn’t worked”

@ikce_18070 @rickCansad0 Making reference to it as an example of an artform that isn't in the cultural zeitgeist is, at worst, mild ribbing. Y'all are acting wild about this.

this discourse is one of the biggest mass psychosis events i think i’ve witnessed outside of politics in a long time i genuinely cannot believe how mad people are about his correct comments
Variety@Variety

Misty Copeland, who helped Timothée Chalamet promote #MartySupreme, has weighed in on his comments about ballet and opera: “First I have to say that it’s very interesting that he invited me to be a part of promoting ‘Marty Supreme’ with respect to my art form ... He wouldn’t be an actor and have the opportunities he has as a movie star if it weren’t for opera and ballet and their relevance in that medium. So all of these mediums have a space and we shouldn’t be comparing them.” variety.com/2026/film/glob…

@ridersof_BROhan @Malky @CantEverDie Secondly, do you think opera and ballet, and theater as a whole, for that matter, have lost relevance bc they are a trend audiences stopped liking or bc businesses and governments do not give them enough resources to make them accessible to the large public?

@rickCansad0 @CantEverDie It's only worth it to him. He's talking about his own career. That's just called a personal opinion! Saying "hey I want to work in relevant media" is a very straightforwardly normal perspective and y'all are being bonkers about it.

@CantEverDie This may be an exaggeration led by the fact that he once lead the Oscar's race, but let's not underpine what he said. This utilitarian view of art as "only worth it while it is popular" is very disgusting and completely ignores +

Badgermole Cub is weird. I keep thinking it needs to be banned, but I think there's an argument that it's a necessary evil because without it green decks probably wouldn't be able to keep up in Standard, but if Badgermole is a necessary evil, then Standard's just too fast, right?

@SaffronOlive The current legend rule is not fun and never has been. Drawing multiple legends isn't a fun puzzle, it's an annoyance, and makes clones weird to use. I'd actually advocate for a change to make legends singleton in constructed deck building with no rule against duplicates in play.

Curious what you all think about this? I'm very much team Mark/Aaron. The current legend rule is really bad with 2026 era design, especially with UB sets, but in general. If you *have* to make common versions of name characters, they don't need to be legendary. I also think the arguments from R&D is pretty lackluster. 1.) Overall it doesn't feel like legends are more powerful than non-legends (and legends just shouldn't exist at common period, outside of very rare cases like the at the time unique legend theme of original Kamigawa). 2.) The system working very well for in-universe sets doesn't mean much when more than half of sets are Universes Beyond. 3.) The legend rule has changed several times over the years, mostly for the better, and people figured it out. I don't think the cost is that high. Give Magic players some credit R&D... I think the costs to basically every non-Commander format of making so many legends is higher than trying to solve the problem.

@Malky Doesn't come through in my post but the catalyst was not to tell people to shut up. I think opinions are the most valuable thing we have and I welcome both sides. My issue is with how people express their frustration, often aiming it at other players rather than WotC/Hasbro.

We are more than FIVE YEARS into Universes Beyond and it is still causing frustration because TNMT does not feel like Magic… … But neither does Walking Dead, or Stranger Things, or Dr. Who, or SpongeBob, or Fortnite, or Spider-Man, or… Isn’t it time to accept UB and move on?

In Blade Runner, there’s a scene in Sebastian’s apartment where a mouse is visible on his desk. Presumably, this mouse is synthetic, which leads to the question, why create synthetic pests? Is the world so lonely they have to recreate the nuisance of the past to feel normal?

Just watched a video of ICE agents executing a man in Minneapolis. DHS will try to say he had a gun (which you can legally carry in MN) but the video shows 7 masked agents beat a man on the ground then fire 5 shots into him point blank. Can’t wait for the spin zone on this one.

@BagLadyLisa @hypocoristicon1 @adamsteinbaugh I think we should let people stay even if we disagree with them because we believe in freedom. Plus one of the best ways to convince people we're right is to have them live here for a while. Also I wouldn't let any stranger stay in my home, and I think that's a bonkers question.

It's not complicated. There's a big difference between "I think the United States shouldn't support Israel" and "I, together with Hamas and Hezbollah, think Israel shouldn't exist" One is a simple opinion. One is an opinion that connects itself to organizations that do not align with Western values and are potentially dangerous. If a person does not support the foundational truths of a country and align with ideas/people/organizations that assault that foundation, why does a country have to allow that person to stay? ESPECIALLY if it's a condition stipulated on their visa. Would you just welcome the neighborhood gang banger, drug dealer into your family room? If not, why? Why are you so pitiful and weak that you need to be scared of guests?

Here is the newly-unsealed State Department memo confirming -- finally -- that the detention of Tufts student Rümeysa Öztürk was based on an op-ed. No antisemitic activity. No support of terrorism. An op-ed in a student newspaper.

“The files on Öztürk … indicate further that the government relied solely on the inferences made from an op-ed she wrote for the student newspaper to carry out the revocation of her visa, her arrest, and her detention.” They had nothing, and they knew they had nothing.

Why is my home country so pitiful and weak that it needs to be scared of guests? Why can't we be a strong country that can accept criticism without being weird about it?

I understood it to be that in the op-ed she linked herself to another group (can't remember the name but it was referred to as something like TJIPS) that had images of weapons in flyers, called for intifada and was eventually banned from campus. When you are a guest in a country you need to be very careful the company you keep. And if you have even loose associations/support for those with terroristic leanings, it's best to not publicly advertise that--even in a boring article in a campus newspaper.

This is such a lazy lie. This individual was NEVER offered a job at ICE. Applicants may receive a Tentative Selection Letter following their initial application and interview that is not a job offer. It just means they are invited to submit information for review, similar to any other applicant.

We've got something fun planned for this year. Richard is joining me for a weekly paper gameplay series! We're going to play through a 64 team bracket of the most iconic Standard decks of all time to find the best Standard deck ever! Also random fun stuff like me making Richard play Premodern for the first time. This means slightly less digital gameplay, but way more paper gameplay and way more Richard content! Still finalizing the schedule, but I think it will be paper gameplay on Monday, Against the Odds on Wednesday and Much Abrew/Budget Magic on Friday.
